Problems with ford Taurus 1999, any help?

So I know it's very hard to get the answers I need without having someone actually look at my car, but I'd figure it give it a shot and see if anyone else has had this problem. I have a ford Taurus year 1999. I was driving on the freeway and my car started acting up. Out of no where my car wouldn't accelerate, my speed was decreasing... even if I pushed on the acceleration, so I just pulled over to the side and completely stopped, where my car then stopped running on its own, but I still had power. I wondered if it was anything with the battery, because my battery light came up, but it wasn't because my lights all came up and when I would try to start it back up, it wasn't ticking. It would start up, but it would chug really bad then stall out. It smelt like it was burning rich (that's what someone told me). then eventually it just wouldn't start back up at all. I thought maybe it was bad gasoline that I got... (Also, I usually tend to run my car til it's empty... I know it's bad, but before I had made my trip that day, I had just filled up the tank). So I got some fuel treatment to put in. Then we checked the oil... on the oil stick, it wasn't reading ANY oil at all, so we figured my car just didn't have any oil in it. We check the oil plug underneath, it was leaking a little bit so we decided to change that out, but I had about 2 - 3 qts of oil spill out of my car. After that we put new oil in there, about 4 qts as recommended, of 5w-30. We then checked the spark plugs and realized that all of the plugs were fried. Unfortunately we could only get to the front 3 plugs to replace them, but didn't get to the back 3 without removing stuff on the top. We figured it could at least start back up if we put in three brand new spark plugs, but even after all of that, my car still doesn't want to start. I've had people say it's the alternator, then people say that it can't be that.
Sorry my story is so long, but if anyone has any suggestions that would be awesome.
Thank you
I fixed the oil leak. Put in a new plug and new oil.
Also, We don't think it's the alternator because my car didn't go completely dead - the battery is fine... So I have people saying it can't be the alternator. I guess the only option it to have it looked at... =\

you might want to start by fixing the oil leak, rather fix that up front then to go all out in whats wrong with it then have it like than and end up replacing the engine as well.
then do the back three, its a tight squeeze ( i have a 97) but do the plugs
but the power sounds exactly like your alternator. some shops will test if free, but im pretty sure its going bad.
