Hi all.
I was hoping a dog savvey person could give me a few tips to help my dog walk better.
We have a chocolate labrador, about a year and a half old. So still in puppy mode. He's a very good natured dog, but going on walks is getting harder and harder.
He pulls. I've tried everything we can think of. Starting with the stop start technique, but when we stop he'll obidently stop and sit, then the second we move again, he'll pull straight away. We stop, he stops, sits, then the moment we're moving, he's trying to drag us along again. This usually goes on for the whole walk.
We've tried using a halty (harness that goes around the nose, and pulls his head down when he pulls), but he still kept on charging against that, pulling like crazy and trying to keep his head as straight as possible. And he hates the halty with a passion, he doesn't like coming near it, and we have to con him with food and then its still a struggle to get it on. And he keeps on dragging his head against the ground trying to rub it off constantly during the walk.
And he also doesn't care about food during the walk either. We've taken doggy treats to try and keep him at bay and reward him, but he isn't interested, and just wants to get to the next post to have a good sniff.
Does anybody have any suggestions?
