problem with my i850? or is it just service?

I just got a i850 on thursday and some of my friends say that they can hardly hear me when I call them on their cell phones. I have to pretty much yell so they can hear me good. They put their volume all the way up too. I even called my buddies house phone with the same problem. other people can hear me just fine. is there a problem with my phone or the network? or any other ideas?

I recently got a complaint about when I call a friend, they
say it's too loud, so I told them to turn down their volume.
I have an i830. I would suspect there might be something
wrong with your phone, I doubt it is with the network
because with digital they are either off or on, not static
like old analog phones or traditional 2 way radios. I
understand why you seek answers in the forums, because
from my experience the Customer Care people are
clueless. If you called them with that problem, they
would transfer you to a person in Costa Rica via a VOIP
connection which will sound bad, and they can't help
you. They would tell you what they told me, GET IN YOUR
CAR AND DRIVE 30 MILES and see if it gets betta!
I suggest you take your phone down to the nearest Nextel
store and explain the problem- ask to use a demo phone
of the same model and call the persons who complained
from your phone and the demo, if there is no difference
then you can deduce that the problem is not with the
phone, but more likely the network at the point of
where you usually call from. Next you should take the
demo and try it from home. Thats one way of troubleshooting and if they don't help you, you have 30
days to cancel the contract, otherwise you are stuck with
a 2 year contract. :)

I thought about your problem a little more today. I was
told many years ago that the cell phone towers (repeaters)
actually sence how close you are to the repeater, and
then re-broadcast the transmission from your phone at
a set rate, in other words if you are next to the tower, it
will re transmit at a lower power back to you. And if you
used a liner amplifier from miles away it would think you
were next to it and if you are far away , you won't
receive from it. I am not familer with the model you
speak of, does it have a speakerphone? Try using it and
call your friend and ask them how well they hear you. The
more I think about it maybe your friend has an inferior
quality phone compaired to a Motorola, and maybe their
network is not as good as Nextel's. And if they aren't
using their speakerphone feature suggest that they do.
And test it with a few different people, I have a feeling
there may be nothing wrong with your phone, but you
should do all kinds of troubleshooting before you give it
up, you have 30 days so invest all the time you can to
figure it out. I personally think Motorola phones are the
best and my experience using Nextel is excellent now,
allthough they were not so good 6 years ago.

thanks for all the help dr.

I tired the speaker phone thing and she could hear me just fine and when i flipped open the phone and turned speaker phone off it went back to I can't hear you so I took my phone back. I got a new phone and she can hear me just fine =) woot woot.

thanks again

I reccommend only using the speakerphone. It will
definately drain your battery quickly, so I hook it to the
A/C charger when I use it at home, and I have a real
car kit for the vehicles. I personally will never hold a
radio phone against my head ever again, it looks stupid
and it cooks your brain, and in the car I do hold the
microphone in my hand but it's much safer then trying
to hold a phone against your head. And the police look
for people hold phones to their head and they use microphones themselves so if you use a mic they might think you are one of them and not cite you.Check your
instruction manual, there are different ways to set up
your phone, like to not answer upon opening, and not
turn off the speaker upon opening, multiple greetings
and all kinds of cool features that you have to gleen
from the manuals yourself, because NextCare can't help
you. Beleive me it will take some time and testing to
set up the phone the way you want it , but once your
done you shouldn't have to mess with it for at least a
year. And congrats on solving the most serious problem,
CAN YOU HERE ME NOW. I

it is because of the merging companies - sprint and nextel are re doing the whole nextwork & servicing. so now 6-1 phone can have service .. that is why

I have read that Sprint bought Nextel, creating a merger.
Nextel's iDEN network is TDMA based running at 800 to
900Mhz and Sprint's CDMA based system runs at 1900Mhz
I guess the advantages of the merger are that Nextel
would get to place their repeaters on the same towers as
Sprint. I have also read something about that Sprint's
Direct Connect features a 10 second delay, where Nextel's
has none. So because of the merger Sprint can bring
their PTT up to speed, maybe. What, what is a 6-1 phone?
:)

technically it was a merger of equals...yeah right....but newayz, u are correct about the networks however nextel owned 3/4 of the new WiDEN network that they wanted to develop and sprint had the other 1/4...hence profit for both companies. sprint gained the corporate accts and nextel a new network that hasn't been touched that will allow international walkie talkie in under 2secs delay. the 6-1 interconnect was a new form of the same digital network that they had been using that was supposed to launch with the i730 but never did. it was supposed to be faster, allow true sms, etc....however, since it didn't launch, that's y most falcons have problems with battery life, speaker and mic issues, and reception in general. the falcons all have the 3-1 interconnect (which is the old version) that it defaults to when there is no 6-1. (btw reston, VA is the only place that has 6-1, if they are still using it) i think that this 6-1 will be dropped and scrapped. 3-1 will continue to operate until 2010, WiDEN phones are being launched this year and will be the new integration of network usage for the the future of sprint.

ahhh almost forgot, nextel is getting the bum end of the deal yah? well maybe but nextel should soon get phones made by other companies that will make moto push phones out much faster to us and drop the overall prices
