Problem with installing headers in 85 chevy?

I have a 1985 chevy monte carlo. Ive jes taken out the 305, and installed my 350. Today i jes cut the exhaust pipes off and now im trying to fit the headers on. I have the full length headers. but i cant squeeze them pass the valve covers. they keep getting caught. Is there some trick to gettin them in?
