Ok, I'm looking for anyone with a suggestion.
Just bought a 1979 KH125, nice condition with Mot. But then things started to go wrong. It smoked alot, and would it wouldn't idle and often stalled at junctions when there was no throttle, eventually, it just wouldn't start at all. Took it to a mechanic. He adjusted the oil pump and gave it a general clean and then it started working again. On the way home though, when it was warm, it started backfiring and shuddering between about 3000-5000 rpm. Eventually, it just started stalling all the time and then all I could do after a while was start it with the choke, but whenever I revved it, it woul just burble and die, like a carb failing kind of burble. So I took it to a mechanic again and he thought at first it was the ignition coil, but after testing the electrics, said it wasn't, he said he put the tap on reserve and then it started running ok for several miles, he then blew out the carb. I rode it home and it went perfectly, no probs what so ever. Stuck it in the garage for a couple of hours, and then I went out to ride it and it just wouldn't start, absolutely nothing. It has compression, and it sounds like it wants to go every time I kick it. So I took the spark plug out, it's new so I know it's not that, and kicked it over, and there's no spark coming from the plug, I even tested it with another plug that I know works and nothing. Later that day I managed to get it to start but after about 2 seconds it just died, like the ignition was turned to off suddenly. I've got a guy coming over today who reckons it's the points that may be either jammed or sticking, (it's an old 6volt system). Do you think he's correct, and if he's not, what else could it be? This is driving me mad as it's been going on for weeks, I'm running out of money and patience and would be really gratefull for anyone's input. Thanks
