Problem with '93 Ford Taurus please help.?

I bought a used 93 Ford Taurus and for some reason it started just dyeing when I drive it either small distances or sometimes on farther trips. I will just be driving and it is almost like it looses all power but the battery isn't going dead due to the fact the lights and other electronics still work in the vehicle. I try to turn it back over but it won't even attempt to turn over and it can't be jump started either. I have to let the car sit for a period of time (usually overnight) before it will start up again. What could possibly be going wrong with it?
 
its american, and way too old, you bought it, you just got ripped off. never buy an american car that old, not just american, any other brand, its 16 years old!
