1996 Jeep Cherokee

Hi,
This morning I had a message that said CHECK GAUGE. So I pulled over and opened the hood and out came all this smoke. I barely came home and am not quite sure what to do?

You overheated, more and likely need to change the thermostat, or find out what caused the overheating in the first place.

What did the gauges say? Was an oil light on? A water temp light? Was the temp gauge reading high? I’m sorry but we need a lot more information then what has been given here.

You let your car run out of a vital fluid....i tell people to learn to open hood...check radiator fluid,,brake,,power steering fluid,,and oil levels...OFTEN...Iv "repaired several cars by pulling dipstick and seeing no oil. was it smoke or steam??? may well be thermostat..hope engine is ok...overheating can kill the headgasget in a few miles..

Where was the smoke coming from? The radiator? The engine? What color was the smoke? Did it have a sickly sweet smell to it? Did it smell 'Burnt'?

I really need more information.
