I currently have 2 receivers installed. A 9241 and a 4100.

I just replaced my old TV and want to upgrade the 4100 to a 6131.

Called Bell yesterday and they told me I have to get professional installation for the new receiver! All they need to do is plug in and connect the new receiver as the feed is already coming from both sats (I have confirmed this with the 9241).

How can I get them to swap my receiver without paying for an install?

I could go and buy a 6131 but would prefer to rent right now.

Thanks
Ed

If you insist on Renting, Bell will insist on doing the Installation, it is their Policy.

There are deals right now where you can buy a 6131 for $99 and get a $100 credit on your account. Doing this would allow you to install it yourself.

Then ship back the 4100, keeping full details of all shipping numbers etc. Bell will send you an empty box for this.

You may not be able to return that rental 4100 without the early term fees, if it's still within the first two years of the contract. That's a $50 fee. The upgrade to the 6131 would take care of that, but there's the installation charge. Why charge for an installation? It's rental equipment, and Bell wants to ensure that it's done right, even if it only appears to involve unplugging one and plugging the other one in. For one thing, there's also the change of cables between the receiver and the television.

You'd be surprised, but some people can't do that.

Thanks for the replies. I went to FS and picked up a 6131.

Forgot about the early term fee also. Guess I'll have the 4100 running for a few more months.

If you already have your 6131 you can hook it, activate it and use it...they are asking you to rent the 4100 for the contract lenght, not to use it!

Just say you bought an additionnal receiver and you want to activate it. Don't say that unit is to replace the 4100, cause the agent will deactivate the unit, which will start a return process (return boxes will be issued)
