Probiotics really help

I haven't posted in quite some time, but have been reading posts. My son has suffered with acne since he was 14 and is now 20. You name it, prescription and non-prescription, 3 dermatologists, accutane, every product imaginable - he has tried it. High dosage of vitamin A and 50 mg. zinc worked for a while pretty good, then started breaking out again. This is the 3rd month he has been taking a probiotic recommended by a pharmacist, and he is clearer now than ever before. She advised the first 2 weeks, there would be some improvement, and that it might take 6 months of probiotics -- but he is almost completely clear on month 3. It is wonderful! His is severe cystic acne, and he does have some scarring -- that he can deal with later. I think I'll ask the pharmacist about the scarring too, because she truly has helped more than any derm. Hope this info helps someone else too.

Yeah, a candida irabalance can cause acne too. And most of us have it from all the antibiotics.

I always forget to mention in my diet discussions that I sort of did a candida cleanse at the start of my diet changes. I didn't do the whole candida killing diet though, because I had just started habitually eating more fruit each day and didn't want to stop. But I used a kit that included fiber supplements, anti-microbial supplements like garlic, and a probiotic. And I cut out all other sugar for a few weeks. And I've taken a probiotic more or less daily ever since.

My skin has been 100% clear for months, many months if you discount the breakouts I've had due to an allergy. I believe diet is the biggest factor, but I take many other supplements like the probiotic that I'm sure are beneficial. I just can't say for sure.

What is a probiotic? Can you suggest a brand and where I could buy it? Do you think this will work for moderate acne?

most GOOD probiotics have to refrigerated---the one I use is made by Jarrow called Jarro-Dophilus

Acidophilus is a probiotic and I hear it helps.
I am in my 30's and have started to break out due to drinking excessive amounts of soda. But am working on changing my diet and getting healthier started taking vitamin A and Acidophilus.:)

Probiotics are live bacteria that you need in your intestines. Also, what turns milk into yogurt. They are destroyed by antibiotics and high sugar diets which allow candida and other fungus to grow causing an irabalance.

Walgreens and most drug stores will have probiotics, usually just acidopholus with a few million live critters per capsule. Health food stores or whole fooRAB will have them with a blend of live flora in the billions. I'm using one ordered from vitacost called Nature's Way Primadopholus Bifidus.

There are many, many potential benefits to keeping your intestinal flora in balance and digestive system healthy--improving conditions such as lactose intolerence, lowering blood pressure and cholestoral, week immune system, inflammation, irritable bowel syndrome, etc.

The brand of the probiotics my son is taking is Klaire Labs - Ther-Biotic Complete, and he takes two daily along with one FOS capsule, manufactured by Pure encapsulations. The FOS capsule contains 15 mg of vitamin C (ascorbyl palmitate) and 750 mg. of fructooligosaccharides. The pharmacist explained that the FOS capsule helps the probiotics work better, but explained it in great detail - which I don't remeraber. The Ther-Biotic lists 12 types of good bacteria on the ingredients. My son just knows that his face is looking soo much better and I see an improvement in his attitude and his self-confidence is much better.

Hmm, I didn't know that probiotics could help. I've been eating a ton of yogurt lately to increase my protein intake and I have noticed that my skin has been better, perhaps that has something to do with it.

I haven't bought them in a while, but I used to get some cherry flavored chewable acidophilus tablets to help with IBS.
