I am a divorced mother of one living in Louisiana. I lived in Florida until April of this year in the same town as my ex-husband and son. My ex and I were divorced in September of 2007. He had a lawyer and I did not. He paid for the lawyer with cash from the sale of a vehicle that was purchased while we were married. My ex told me that I had no right to any community property or proceeds from the sale of it since I "abandoned" our home when I left him. I left him while he was deployed to the Middle East because I knew I would not be able to do it while he was around. He was sexually and emotionally abusive. I do not yet want to press charges regarding this, but that is why I left when I did. He is an Active Duty member of the Air Force stationed at Eglin AFB in Valparaiso, FL. I am in Louisiana because this is the nearest place I could find work. I am looking for an attorney to help me understand and flex what parental rights I was "given" in my divorce. I work as a medical and legal transcriptionist and have very little money.
