Privatizing education, is it a good idea?

I support private school vouchers and allowing parents the prerogative to choose the school for their children. I also support home schooling for homes that have the ability to do so. Students of both private schooling and home schooling consistently outperform students of public schools.

A couple of my reservations about completely privatizing all public schools, though, are the closing down of some schools and denial of access to education for the purpose of cost savings.

(I know this is a repeat question but I don't think everyone got to see what I added. Sorry if it annoys you.)

I'm not sure if it has ever been proposed or if it will ever be. I was just wondering, briefly, what do you think would happen to the education system in the United States if it were to become privatized. The failing public schools would be closed while still allowing the ones that are successful to remain open for those who either can't afford it or don't care about their education one way or another.

And if education were to become privatized, would you send your child to a school in which creationism was taught as if it were history?

Note: I only added the creationism part of this question so I could post this in R&S. I knew you guys would give me some interesting opinions.
