Prisoners/criminals getting free college education in jail? Fair or not?

I personally don't think it's fair that prisoners get it for free. Those of who actually follow the law have to earn our money the honest and hard way, while these robbers, rapists, muderers, gang members get college education for free. I don't care if they're changing their lives or not; most of them don't even take it seriously.

So what's your opinion on this?

if they are lifers - NO. if they have a chance of being a productive citizen after prison then getting an education while in prison is ok
 
I think as a condition for getting released from prison, you would need to pass at least the GED exam.

Education and rehabilitation is what prison should be about except for murderers who are in there for life.
 
it keeps them busy and out of trouble

most of them will not be able to do anything with their degree when they get out, but if they do, more power to them.

would you rather they come out on the streets with just better criminal skills?

be careful what you wish for.

not all prisoners are equal. some had personal stash of marijuana, and others were beaten into confessions.

the lifers who murder probably could give a crap about completing college while in prison, as they have nothing to gain by it.
 
Prisoners should get nothing as far as a free education !
there were BAD & should NOT be rewarded !
You have people out here killing themselves trying to put thereselves through college !
 
While it is certainly not fair, it may be in the long term best interest of society.
 
they also have a rap sheet when they come out. verrrry tough to get a job like that. personally I want them to get an education so that there is a chance that they will go and earn an honest living. a mind is a terrible thing to waste.

I would not say it is fair for prisoners to receive "Free College" Why you may ask: Because first of all you first have to get your self incarcerated and remain incarcerated to receive the education. Secondly, Answer this question: Would you want your next door neibor who just got of prison to be unemployable and totally ignorant with no prospects or one who gets out with newly acquired trainning and skills to be an asset to his or her community verses your worse nightmare.
