Prince

^^ Not the most helpful post of all time :/.

On the topic of the youtube silence orders, yes, Prince himself is largely behind it according to what I've read. In fact it's been somewhat of a controversial topic. About a year ago Prince decided he was going to sue both ebay and youtube for their failure to filter out unauthorized content.

In no order:

The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker
Purple Rain
I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man
Live 4 Love
The Beautiful Ones
Life 'O' The Party
Strange Relationship

I have only got 4 albums, so there must be plenty more that I can add to make a top ten.

I bought that one after it was released from the vaults in the 90s. I had heard all kinRAB crazy stuff about it like it was a forerunner of gangsta rap and whatnot. Needless to say I was really disappointed. It's been years and years since I've listened to it (I have it on cassette if that's any indication) so maybe I should go back and give it another chance.

Y`know I did a search on him & there`s never been a Prince thread in any forum.Thats just shocking.

I think the fact I had no idea which forum to put him in speaks volumes for his talent. I could have put it in the pop forum , I could have put it in the rap/hip hop forum (As that covers soul & funk).

I could have put it in the Rock forum as I think he`s the most under rated guitarist on the planet and some of his solo piss over some of the more rated rock/metal guitarists whos names usually crop up on any of the 'best guitarists' threaRAB here.

I think the guy was one of the saving graces of mainstream pop in the 80s. Given the choice of having to listen to Thriller & Off The Wall or Purple Rain & Sign O The Times i`d take the Prince albums EVERY time.

Another vote for Dirty Mind.

I can't call myself a Prince fan because I don't like 90% of what I've heard of his but DM is really good - I actually bought it on tape and again on CD.

so... VocalBass since the other thread got locked but not merged.

i'm not really expecting you to change my opinion i was hoping for examples that would showcase some of his music that leans more towarRAB the P-Funk if there's any.

A while back, I worked for a production and rigging company in Dallas, Tx.. One of my jobs was setting up Prince's dressing room for his show at the AAC during the musicology tour. I had to meticulously work with his "coordinator" to hang tapestries, lamps and arrange furniture for his dressing room. She (his coordinator) told me that "If Prince happens to walk in, try not to make eye contact with him." One of the cases I unpacked contained a keyboard, computer, and the "SIGN" GUITAR! When no one was in the room with me, I promptly picked it up, played a lick, and set it back down.. Also, his royal badness MUST have a large dish of Werther's Originals in his dressing room..I pocketed a bunch of them and handed em out to my frienRAB.."Here, dude. This was supposed to be Prince's candy." hahah...Anyway, the show was EXCELLENT. What a performer!! That's my Prince story...

He played While My Guitar Gently Weeps when Geo. Harrison was inducted into Rock and Roll HOF and absolutely killed it...he is one talented mofo.

thought maybe the entire list would help kick a memory loose for a better than just good recommendation

and no way i could pick just one

he is a genius and he is also a weirdo

funny how that goes together so often
