they just dont seem to make decent movies out of video games. is it just me that sees it this way? that every video game conversion as nothing special? not seen a decent one yet. but have seen lots of good comic book convertions
same box office wise compared to comic book conversion either.
Got to see it the same time as it was being shown at the premiere. I really enjoyed it. I admit I have only played The SanRAB of Time the year it came out and I never completed it cos I kept dying, so I can't really compare it to the game. I thought it was great though, still wasn't took keen on Jake Gyllanhaal but he was better than I expected him to be and Alfred Molina's character is great Gonna go and see it again when it comes out.
The answer is obvious. video games you watch. You have to think, plan, time jumps ets. It's fully interactice. With a film you just sit and watch. It's the equivilent of Formula one. yeah it's fun and nice watching cars going around the track but you don't get the buzz you would get if you were driving the car. Even when they cut to the camera on the car it's not the same. You have no control, you're not feeling anything or making decisions.
Nothing they ever do will give you that feeling, Even if they make it in super surround sound and mega 3D you are still just sitting watching and not participating and making decisions that affect the outcome and what happens.
I'm sure a lot of us have surround sound systems or pug it through the Hifi to watch TV to gte the best sound. Simple question.
Why is watching a concert still not as good as being there?
because you're not experiencing it for yourself.
I really enjoyed it and would welcome a sequel. I'm not the biggest fan of CGI but it worked really well in this film. I thought the whole cast was brilliant, although Ben Kingsley was just phoning it in.
Went to see this last night and thought it was fairly average. I guess a younger Disney audience may enjoy it more. Didn't really care about any of the characters and found that most of the fight scenes were so blurry you couldn't really see what was happening. A few good moments in the fighting and a few good one liners but otherwise not great. The bits with Alfred Molina in were comfortably the most entertaining bits I thought. Shame we had to wait until half way in for his character to arrive.
Went to see this tonight, although I should have known better seeing as it came from Jerry Bruckheimer. It was like a cross between POTC and Indiana Jones, but with none of the charm of the latter and all the flaws of the first - two dimensional characters; a story which made absolutely no sense, but which everyone in the film did their best to take seriously; and edited to within an inch of it's life, with most scenes becoming indecipherable.
I just had a look at the box office figures and it's doing horrendously! On a budget of $200m, its only made $28.3m in international territories, with the US release taking place this weekend.
I agree, I'm a 42 year old woman that has never played the video game and I really enjoyed this film. I guess it's because I love the big summer blockbusters, cliched story, hammy acting and dodgy music 'n'all.
I loved this and hated Robin Hood. I guess it was because Jake Gyllenhaal's accent was pretty spot on to my ear and Russell Crowe's highly irritated me.
I've been very excited to see this since it was first announced those years ago! Great cast, espcially Gemma, and based on one of my favourite video games. I have read some on the tie-in books already, and listened to the score, its fantastic!
I saw it this afternoon. It's a very good film even though it's very CGI heavy. No doubt people will disagree with this bit but IMO the CGI was better than LOTR films in places. The cities are stunningly beautiful.
The story is very basic and at times getting told the same thing over and over again does get a bit annoying. The main leaRAB are good but not great. He is very good but Gemma isn't. They just don't have a chemistry which is disappointing. When you think od similar type of films and pairings Michael Douglas/Kathleen Turner, Harrison Ford/Karen Allen, Brendan Frazier/Rachel Weisz and Johnny Depp/Keira Knightly they bounced off and complimented each other.
You don't get that at all with Jake and Gemma so at times the film seems to hit a wall when they are given some acting rather than action sequences to do.
Ben Kingsley was OK, but should have been better. At times you did get the feeling he was going through the motions with the acting as he wasn't given a lot to work with. I would put it on the same level as his performance as The Hood in ThunderbirRAB.
Alfred Melina was good and had some good lines but is capable of more with better material too.
IMO this film blows the currently showing Robin Hood and also Alice in Wonderland out of the water. It's a good old fashioned adventure film. There is talk of a sequel. If they do then I think they need to ditch Gemma which won't be easy to do.
Saw this yesterday and was surprisingly impressed!
Have never played the video games, and not ususally into this sort of film, but i enjoyed it
The CGI was gorgeous and we saw it in an IMAX screen (not 3D) which i felt really added something to the film.
I couldn't disagree more about Gemma or her chemistry with Jake. The sarky banter during the first half was definetly one of the best parts of the film, and it got lots of recations in the cinema I was in. Gemma was brillaint and Princess Tamina was a great character. Although, I am very bias, as Gemma was the main reason for being very excited for the film.
The scenery and sets were lush, and the CGI buildings were beautiful. The action scenes were really thrilling too, and Dastans "free running" was epic! Yes, the story was quite thin, and a little confusing at times, but at the same time, its a "getting from A to B" story, which is fun to follow. I would have liked the big finale to be a little longer, but I did like the twist at the end, although
After the big rewind, I fund it heartbreaking that all the lovely character development of Tamina had gone too, along with her love for Dastan, but it is obvious by the final scene, that can be re-built, although it felt very bittersweet.
Overall, its a brilliant blockbuster, like a mash up of Pirates of the Caribbean and The Mummy and its first sequel. Definetly a bi fun popcorn flick! The cinema was packed too, it got lots of laughs and it even got applause at the end! Hahaha
Didn't like the film at all, too much CGI, plot was predictable, it seemed to drag on forever and too many plot holes. Why didn't they turn back time when the city was being attacked? If the dagger was so dangerous, why didn't they destroy it?, etc. Although my disappointment of the film may have been influenced by the the fact that two medium drinks and a popcorn cost me
