Primetime Shows That Would Work as Animated Series

Remember back when Saturday Mornings were relevant and we'd get animated shows based on live action t.v. shows, no matter silly the premise?

Like Fonz and the Happy Days Gang, which sent Fonzie, Richie, and Ralph on a time traveling adventure?

Or It's Punky Brewster, which gave her a magical elf named Glomer?

Or Gilligan's Planet, in which the castaways blasted off into space and landed on an uncharted planetoid?

Well, that trend pretty much died off by the end of 1980's, but do you think it could be revived today if the right network got involved?

I think some shows would work:

Supernatural: Yes, I'm aware of the anime that's being made, but I think a series chronicling the adventures of young Dean and Sam would work well as a weekly cartoon.

Heroes: Lighten it up a bit, and this would have been perfect for an animated adaptation.

Everybody Loves Raymond: Imagine Ray and his whole family getting sucked into the center of the Earth and having to live among the mole people. The interactions between Ray's parents (RIP Peter Boyle) and the molemen would be priceless.

Your thoughts/ideas?

Hahaha I love the Raymond one. I'd watch that.

Well I've always thought Doctor Who would make a good cartoon. It had one or two specials but no series. It'd be great if they did something like the Ten Doctors comic animated.

Mythbusters: The Animated Series...nothing more need be said.

Even before the cute little "Sein-Imation" bonus features on the DVD sets, I thought Seinfeld would make for a fun, zany little cartoon (in a more traditional style than the "Sein-Imations" shorts, of course).

I always thought that Malcom in the Middle and Scrubs felt like animated series. Anyways here are some more tongue in cheek ones that I came up with:

Modern Family Mysteries: Of course Cam and Mitch are now cousins who live together as oppose to a gay couple (Lily being a baby they found on their doorstep) and Gloria and Manny are Jay's neighbors instead of wife and stepson. The families can solve mysteries with talking animals or something.

Big Bang Babies: Leonard, Sheldon, Penny, Howard, Raj, Amy, and Bernadette are all babies and under the care of Howard's unseen mom. I know this is against the canon, but "babification" shows usually are.

That'd be interesting- the first thing that came to mind for me was House, M.D. and Glee.

House: I could see this series with the same format, but with anime-stylized character designs for some reason.

Glee: I could see this go more as a Ruby/Spears type animated series with extra, extra cheese.

Now, if we're talking about older shows, like from 20 years ago, I could easily see a Family Matters animated show, with Steve Urkel causing more mishaps to the Winslow residence than usual.

I can also see this happening to Saved by the Bell, but it'd be called the Marvelous Misadventures of Screech.

My mom once said that Winx Club was like a children's animated version of Sex and the City XD But the thought of that is a very scary one and one that should not be brought up again XDD

Anyway, I'd go with Lost (people stranded on a island sounds like a good premise), Law & Order (another mystery series), and Friends (just another slice of life show; just ease up on the romance).

Now, I have to agree with that one. On the actual 'Family Matters,' it was fun to watch Urkel wreck havoc and create all these scientific gizmos. It makes one wonder what else they could have done if this were in an animated environment. It may have been similar to 'Dennis the Menace.' (The 80's animated series of course.)

I wish to imagine "what might have been". Another series from the same era who could had work as animated might be The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Just imagine in animated format the part when Mr. Banks throw Jazz outside the house or how Mr. Bank ground Will.

And if we go more back in time, I spotted a interesting topic then the producers of WKRP in Cincinnati once studied an animated adaptation of WKRP with Hanna-Barbara http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?t=227700

Not primetime, but I wonder how a cartoon spin-off of Saved by the Bell would had looked?

There's a lot of sitcoms that I could see working as an animated series: Full House, Saved By The Bell, Scrubs, The Office. Then again Scrubs and The Office aren't really "sitcoms", but you get waht I mean.

Even though we got 'Mary Kate & Ashley in Action' after Full House ended, I always expected ABC to pull out a Michelle cartoon with her friends from the show as supporting characters. I'd always thought it'd be set up like the animated Punky Brewster with some kind of magical/fantasy element thrown in.

That's something I could see with Sunrise, animated by the same crew as Cowboy Bebop perhaps.

Reversing this, The Hub's new animated series Dan Vs. seems to have taken this route in a fun, family appropriate way.

V seems to be a nice potential action/sci-fi animated series with aliens and all. And Vampire Diaries screams "supernatural shojo anime"

Even with the higher budget that the original series lacked, I think Star Trek would still benefit from another shot at animation whether it's a continuation of a previous series or a new show set in either Trek continuums (either the one that's been around since the 60s or the one that started with the new movie).

The early 90's gave us animated versions of comedians as children, like Little Rosey or Life with Louie.

How about Parks and Rec goes to another planet where they have to run an alien parks department, with the help of a cute little fuzzy (or slimey) alien sidekick?

Or how about the Always Sunny in Philadelphia gang travels through time and has wacky adventures? Every episode would start with the title "Always Sunny" like "It's Always Sunny in Ancient Rome", "It's Always Sunny in Feudal Japan", or "It's Always Sunny during the American Revolution"?

And, with the craziness that is Charlie Sheen, it's time for Two and A Half Men to go animated. I don't care if they're solving mysteries or piloting giant mecha, keep the Two and a Half Men franchise alive!

I prefer Lil' Entourage. Aw yeah, aw yeah, aw yeah, aw yeah!

This! Seriously, why hasn't there been a cartoon version yet? I mean the show has been on for about 107 years, you'd think it would have happened by now.

Fresh Prince would have been an awesome cartoon. In fact, I'm surprised that NBC never approached Will Smith and his cast with the idea. I'm certain they would have signed off on it.

Family Matters would have worked as well, especially since Urkel already had his own doll during his heyday.

Perfect Strangers would have been a good cartoon. Larry and Balki were like a modern day Laurel and Hardy or Abbott and Costello back then.

Smallville would have been less angsty pretty white people with problem and more genesis of Superman in animation. Cooler fights, more consistant cast, plus easier to keep them in highschool for more than 3 seasons.

Like the Legion show but not in the future.

Same here. When I first watched the Seinimation shorts on the DVDs, I was rather disappointed that they were just goofy stick-figure doodles. Something more akin to the art style of "Phineas and Ferb" seems like it'd suit "Seinfeld" well - stylistic, yet observational at the same time.
