Is it considered safe to take Prilosec OTC 2x a day? I take it once, but by evening its unbearable again some days. I have LPR, I think. Sort of dx by my ENT. who didnt do a scope but just looked down where he could see with a mirror.

Probably best to get advice from your doctor. It's worth a quick phone call to the doctor's nurse. I read of people taking prescription and over the counter medications twice per day or supplementing their morning dose of PPI with an H2 blocker (Zantac) in the evening. I have also read about newer PPI"s like Kapidex that are supposed to be "time release." You probably need to take your medicine differently or add something so you are not hurting in the evening. Sorry I cannot be of more help. I am presently trying to stay off the PPI's.

40mg per day of omeprazole is a widely used dose, but it isnt approved for OTC sale, so while taking it twice a day wouldnt in it self be harmful, it would be wise to see your doctor for definative treatment.

Another thing you could try is taking a dose of Gaviscon in the evening

All in all, I would say a return visit to the doctor is in order, not because two Prilosec a dayis harmful, but because you need proper management, not just pills
