I went and got a 14 day supply of Prilosec after gaining weight and having some acid issues, food come up at night, etc.

After 10 days I had to immediately come off. I was experiencing horrific diarrhea, stomach pains, back pains, constant gurgling, etc.

Has anyone else found this to be very unpleasant? I am really wondering how long it will take for this to get out of my system. I lost 10 pounRAB during this time period simply afraid to eat...eating only bananas since that was the only food that would not put me into immediate bowel distress.

What amazes me the most is that Prilosec does not contain a side effect pamphlet within the box.

I started searching on the internet and found a website < edited > and there were 7 pages of people experiencing horrific side effects. ugh.:(

When my doctor put me on Protonix, a prescription version of Prilosec, he told me that it would cause initial digestive issues like those you describe. That passed after a few weeks, though. Now I'm on Prilosec and have had to up my dosage because of severe GERD. The digestive problems recurred at first, then passed. The cure is better than the disease, though. My brother died of esophageal cancer, so I'm doing everything I can to protect myself. Hope this helps.

I've been on Prilosec for 5 weeks (2 weeks at 20 mg/daily and 3 weeks now at 40 mg/daily) and have not had any serious side effects. I did have dry mouth for the first 2 weeks and assume that was from the Prilosec (since I've never had dry mouth in my life until now), but no other noticeable side effects. The jury is still out on whether the Prilosec will adequately treat my LPR tho' and my doctor has mentioned a possible switch to Nexium. We're still in the wait-and-see period.

Also, Protonix is not the prescription version of Prilosec. They are different drugs, although they are both PPIs.

I didn't have any issues with Prilosec other than it didn't work for me at all. Nexium was the killer for me. I had many of your same side effects when I took it. Unfortunately, even when I went right off of it, my side effects didn't go away. I have IBS now from just being on Nexium for a couple weeks. Other PPI's didn't give me the same side effects though. It really is different for everyone.
