Pride & Prejudice #5: You have bewitched me, body and soul...

I like both, and they're rather different in some aspects, and rather similar in others. They '95 version was a mini-series so they could aford to be more detailed. Also, Colin Firth's Mr. Darcy is much more stoic...but still darned hot!

Yeah, I like him in Spooks/MI-5, too, which is where he met and fell in love with Keely Hawes (*is a fan*). :)

I think both versions have merit and there's thankfully no reason to choose between the two.

I loved the scene when Darcy invites Lizzie's uncle to go fishing. I love the look she gives him because it showed that Darcy was trying to change.

Hi everyone!

I love this movie so much!
I'm so dissappointed I didn't go see it in theatres! I was saving up money. But I bought the dvd the day it came out here. I just keep thinking how fantastic it must have been in theatre especially with the beautifull soundtrack!

Matthew definetly owned that role of Darcy. Colin was good, but I felt Matthew just out did him. He made me weak at the knees just watching him. So dreamy. He has such a great presence on screen and just had that handsome, weathered look about him which is what you need for Darcy.

I could watch this film everyday and not tire of it. It's one of my all time favs. That reminds me....I gotta watch it again soon! :)

I'd love to see Matthew and Keira do another film together. They had great chemistry....their kiss at the end :thud: Perfect ending.

I am on such a P&P high lately. Last week, I *finally* decided to borrow the book and read it and man, am I ever sorry for discovering the book so late. It was such a wonderful read and I immediately fell in love with it...I couldn't put the book down. Of course after reading it, I had to watch the movie (which I had no inclination whatsoever of doing prior to reading the book) and after doing so, I fell more in love with the story and the characters, especially Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy.

Keira and Matthew did a wonderful job portraying their characters and their love story. Matthew is irresistable as Darcy, and he played him almost to a tee of what I imagined him to be when I was reading the book.

I'm still on such a high from everything P&P that I think I'm going to watch the movie again later today :D

Dark Angel-do you happen to have a downloadable version of your video? I can't get it to work for me on YouTube and I would love to see it! :)

i first saw matthew in 'spooks' [called MI5, here in the states], and after seeing him in p&p, i cant picture him as anything else anymore. but ive heard so much debate between this one and the '95 version. that im curious to see the '95 version now.

In reviving this thread I just wanted to ask, are there any songs that remind you of the characters in P&P? I just was listening to this John Mayer song and it screamed Darcy at me, particularly after the failed first proposal...

John Mayer
Dreaming With a Broken Heart

When you're dreaming with a broken heart
The waking up is the hardest part

You roll out of bed and down on your knees
and for a moment you can hardly breathe
Wondering was she really here
Is she standing in my room?

No, she's not
cause she's gone, gone, gone, gone, gone.

When you're dreaming with a broken heart
The giving up is the hardest part

She takes you in with her crying eyes
then all at once you have to say goodbye
wondering could you stay my love
will you wake up by my side?

No, she can't
cause she's gone, gone, gone, gone, gone.

Do I have to fall asleep with roses in my hand?
Do I have to fall asleep with roses in my hand?
Do I have to fall asleep with roses in my hand?
Do I have to fall asleep with roses in my, roses in my hands?
Would you get them if I did?

No, you won't
Cause you're gone, gone, gone, gone, gone.

When you're dreaming with a broken heart
the waking up is the hardest part.

I thought that the words of this song probably described Darcy's sadness and desperation after that first rejected proposal.

Me too! I mean, I didn't really think Keira would win, but that would've been nice. I thought she did a really good job in P&P, but maybe that's just 'cuz she's one of my fave actresses :)

It's okay. You're among friends with the obsession thing. :)

As for Matthew, he seems like such a great character actor. I like the fact that he doesn't just take any role that he's offered. His movie "In My Father's Den" is supposed to release in the U.S. soon. I hear that it is absolutely breathtaking. I can't wait to finally see it. His new film "Middletown" was also at the Tribecca Film Festival this weekend. I'm excited for that one to hit the cinema as well. P&P was the first time I had ever seen him in anything. I'm so disappointed I've missed out on all his work up to then. I have some catching up to do! :D

The Kiss was originally in the UK cut for the preview but during the previews when the survey was given out to fill in, a lot of people said they didn't like the kiss at the end, so it was cut out for the actual official UK release.

About the DVD on my copy, the kiss isn't included so I think they left it out completely. Personally I didn't really like the kiss - I was ok with it before reading the book, but after reading it I just thought it was a bit out of place, for the time and the era.

It is a really good movie and adaption of the book though, the actors did really well, with capturing the characters emotions (I didn't even like Keira's acting untill this movie - or a while after lol). You should check out the BBC version too, I haven't seen it all the way through but from what I have seen it looks good. I'm buying the BBC DVD this weekend (hopefully).

Sarah, great work! I love the scene of Lizzy on the swing. It says so much without a word at all. :D

It wasn't necessarily that he was an airhead. I think he was just a shy, nervous guy and I'm not sure that a guy of his "breeding" would actually be like that. I thought it was adorable for the movie but a bit off from the book. And I agree perfect chemistry with Rosamund.

The novel Price and Prejudice is my all time favorite!

I've read it like a million times. And I saw all the different versions of movies and TV of it.

I fell for Keira Knightley as soon as I saw this version. Love the music and views especially.

thanks Ash

ITA !! thats my favorite scene too :in_love: i just love how Lizzy reacted to the proposal with her prejudice towards him but in the last minute she wanted to reconsider.

I love how Joe wasnt afraid to change settings, how he made that scene MUCH more beautiful than it already is by setting it in the rain. :D

Maybe thats why i prefer the movie to the mini-series, the movie isnt 100% the book like the mini-series. i feel like when you want to adapt a book into a movie, you have to take out the best bits of it, the things people loved and try to make them love these moments even more, not to change characters or the plot but to freshen it up.

Like when Lizzy in the movie replayed to Darcy's "She is tolerable, I suppose, but not handsome enough to tempt me."
Later, When he asked her "What to do you recommend to encourage affection?", she said " Dancing, Even if one's partner is barely tolreable" :in_love:

I love how she stood up for herself !! she never did that in the book. Things like these that make me prefer this movie over other adaptations. :D

OMG!

I looooove this movie! I didn't know there was a thread in here!
So..I join!
