Pricing for 3D films at Cineworld

Going up again.

I still don't see why the customer has to pay for the upgrade, and surely we've paid by now the cost of installing all equipment for the cinemas to show 3D.

Dear Valued Customer,

From the 26th of March 2010, we have altered our pricing structure for 3D film to the following surcharge, on top of the ticket price:

They dont charge me for the glasses at vue they are giving them away outside each screen is a box where you can help yourself i have loaRAB that have not even been opened:D So even if they do decide to charge for them it wont affect me:D:D

This is becoming more and more ludicrous as time goes on. Increasing numbers of films are being released in 3D, and to charge extra for the 'experience' is absurd. As the OP said, the cinemas must have covered the cost of the upgrade by now.

That said, is it true that RealD demanRAB a share of ticket revenue for 3D films? I seem to remember reading that somewhere.

I believe they do receive a commission per 3D screening, yes.

This weekend, some CineworlRAB are showing 4 different 3D films - and that, along with any 2D versions also being shown is somewhat restricting choice of films.

I also see that, even on the first weekend, not all cinemas are showing the 2D version of Clash of the Titans.
