I read on line that Prevacid can cause heart problems. Anyone else read this?
My anxiety is bad enough already without something else to worry about. However, the prevacid never worked for me so now my doctor put me on protonix. Now I wonder if all this drugs cause heart problems.

My mom received a medical newsletter a while back that stated Nexium could cause stomach polyps that could turn cancerous, so when her doc gave her a script for Nexium, she wouldn't take it.

Perdi- I don't get the connection between reduced acid and pneumonia? That seems a bit non-logical to me.

I've had heart problems for years and I have taken protonix and am currently taking prevacid with no problems. I think that if a person is having severe reflux and their doctor feels that they need to be on a PPI, then it's important to take care of the reflux.

I agree that if a doctor prescribes it, then you take it. However, I have anxiety about everything, (hence the acid reflux) and when I read about this connection I had a new thing to worry about so I wanted to see what other people that take this medication thought.

Perdi- where did you read prevacid and other proton pump inhibitors cause heart problems, what kind of problems. I have been on prevacid and now Nexium for 6 years. I also have a heart problem, but don't think there is any correlation. I'd be interested in what know in this regard. Pokey

I have MSN and the front page stated drugs doctors would not take. Sorry it was Prilosec and Nexium. However, I thought all these drugs were the same so I was concerned.

I've been taking Prevacid for a few months and now am experiencing daily diarrhea and today the doctors office called and said that my cholestrol and LDL are really up (been normal for 57 year) and to watch what I eat.....well I've been on Weight Watchers for several months and lost 30 pounRAB- I have been watching what I eat. I think the Prevacid is the only change I've made that could affect them. (low cholestrol runs in my family) Guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and go off Prevacid.

Essentially they all are the same, all a form of omeprazole. Just in case I can't find the story what was th reasons doctors wouldn't take Nexium, etc.?

I think it said that researchers are looking into a link between these acid-reflux medications and heart attacks, and that there are more reasons to avoid these two meRAB, because they reduce acid so effectively that you may have an elevated risk of pneumonia and an increased risk of bone loss.

More anxiety and things to worry about!
