I may be totally wrong, but I'm sure I read somewhere that he was filming something else, and had his hair cut, then had to reshoot some scenes for Pretty in Pink and had to wear a wig for continuity.

Great film. my sister and I still laugh at how she took a perfectly nice dress and turned it into this monstrosity.

Andrew McCarthy is still looking good - he's in the new programme Lipstick Jungle - not sure if it's been bought by anyone to show over here though - just checked it's going to be shown in Living

its lightness of tone and its inventiveness make it an extremely funny and moving film.
the characters are perhaps more caricatures than proper upstanding characters but they're still extremely easy to identify with.
