Presenting toonzone's Top 25 Anime of All Time!

I think that you're kind of overreacting here, since I wasn't even implying that you were bashing YYH. I was just defending it as not being as formulaic as you claimed, and just stating why I personally thought that it deserved its spot. In other worRAB, I was just making coffee talk as well. I assumed that my posts would come off as just harmless responses simply just expressing that I didn't fully agree with you. Sorry if it came off like I was trying to make you out to sound like a bad guy, or something like that, because that's not what I intended with my posts.

Shounen generally IS targeted towarRAB that age group, but that by no means translates to action being its selling point, as there are just as many shounen that have little to no action in them as there are the action based ones which you hate.

That's cool. I was just saying that in general, Shonen Jump themes tend to appeal to a certain age demographic and YYH does mostly include these same themes--you know, budding first loves, saving the world from demonic evil, and the like. The kind of things I would have been into at age 15. It may be well executed and it may even be different than what you've seen from previous Shonen Jump type anime, but they just don't speak to me on any personal level anymore, especially when you discover there are more types of anime out there aside from the SJ variety. Not that there's anything wrong with them, mind.

I still enjoy those kind of shows on a certain level, but they sort of appeal to a more specific tastes and demographic.

The thing that surprises me here is that neither Naruto nor Naruto Shippuden are on this Top 25 list. Also, this technically isn't a list of the Top 25. It's more like the Top 30 thanks to the ties. In a true poll, when something ties for spot 19, then the next spot is actually 21. In that case Detective Conan/ Case Closed is actually 25 and Bobobo, Bacanno, FMA: Brotherhood, and Tenchi Muyo! don't make the list. Also, in a true poll all series would go together, so all the Gundams would be 1 spot instead of in 2 spots and FMA and FMA: Brotherhood would actually be considered one.

Eh, I think it would be a crime to put all of the Gundam's in the same spot. FMA and FMA: B would also be a bit of a crime. While they start the same in the end they are completely different series.

It's the same reason as to why I consider Dragon Ball, Z, Kai, and GT different series as far as the anime goes. They all have different tones and are treated as different series. The only time I consider Dragon Ball and Z the same series is when you're talking about the manga since calling Volumes 17-42 of Dragon Ball "Z" is just an invention of Viz Media to say that here are the parts of the manga that inspired the anime. Along with them separating the main YGO series into 3 parts.

Yeah, basically. Dragon Ball is the name for the entire franchise, but when it comes to this as a a vote for favorite series, the four anime...are the four anime.

As a more casual anime viewer, I'm kinda using this as a suggestion list for shows I've missed (that's actually the reason I did the first anime list five years ago ). So I started with One Piece and... didn't do much for me. Next up on the list: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, and then I'm reminded I want to catch more of Death Note which I was about 20 eps in already before getting distracted during a less interesting story arc.

One Piece is definitely an acquired taste, it took reading the manga to make me interested in it, and even then it doesn't start getting really good until later. With a lot of these long-running shonen series it's better to skip around and get a feel for it rather than watching in order. I mean, case in point, most people got into Dragon Ball halfway with Z (and/or the Z movies) and it doesn't tend to affect one's enjoyment any.

I definitely agree with Mynd Hed about One Piece being an acquired taste. I honestly didn't really get that interested in its story or characters until I got to the second half of the Alabasta arc. It is a story which grows on one as they keep following it, but for me it took a REALLY long time for me to find anything special about it. The only reason that I stuck with it for over 100 episodes, before that even happened, is because I am an unsusually extremely patient person when it comes to long-running series like this.

As for the whole jumping around thing, though, I personally could never do that, as I have this weird sort of thing about seeing non-episodic stories like this in order, since skipping around causes me to get disoriented in the series's story, world, and characters, if I do jump around, in most cases.
