Prerequisites for studying medicine in Australia?

South Australia is the only state in which English is not compulsory,
I've been told other than South Australia, all/most other universities only require Chemistry/English as compulsory prerequisites upon entering the course. The rest is "assumed knowledge, eg. maths.."

Is this true ?
