I am planning on either doing the NOLs Yukon Outdoor Educator (hiking and river) or Brooks Range Hiking and River trip later this summer (Mid/End July). I am in relatively good shape because I do a lot of canoeing, but I know that being in shape for a canoe trip is not the same as being in shape for a hiking trip. What can I do to help myself prepare for these hiking trips? I have a tredmill and plan on using it daily, and also plan on doing some day hikes in the nearby-ish Blue Ridge mountains, but those hikes are not something I can do very often just because it does require a lot of driving.
What more can I do to get in shape? Are there specific exercises or strengthening techniques I can do? Does anyone have a specific work-out routine they use that would work?
Thanks
