Prepaid Question

Is there an option to upgrade a phone on a prepaid plan at a lower price like on a contract? I have my backup phone on prepaid and I want to get a newer version of it. Do I have to pay full price or is there some sort of discount?

Unfortunately, no.

Contracts are how wireless companies amoritize the price of the phone. You get a greater discount when signing a 2 year contract because the carrier knows that you will be paying your bill for 2 years and they will recoup the cost of the discount.

Since prepaid is sans-contract its full price to get a new phone.
However, you can put your sim card into any tmo phone and it will work. So if you have an upgrade for your "all the time" phone you could use it to "upgrade" the prepaid phone.

That being said natesax7, they may have a promotion where the pricing on a specific model through a prepaid activation is discounted from retail, simply to promote their prepaid options.

I know that's how it works in Canada, not sure about the states, although it would only make sense for it to work the same way.
