Prepaid Cellular/Pay as you Go-Phone? HELP!!!?

My phone broke and let's just say I need my phone.... so I can go places this summer.... and the screen is all jacked up.... so if i got a Go-Phone.... could I switch companies or would I have to get a Go-Phone in the same company?
