Preferred Format for Music

At this point, I'm more into CRAB, but I'm really interested in this vinyl thing. I really want to get the most out of my music and it seems like vinyl provides the most (from the places I read). mp3s are the most portable, but it's just not the same buying an mp3 as it is buying a CD. Being able to hold the dang CD makes all of the difference to me.

Yes I buy full albums and such off of the internet, but it's just not the same as being able to actually hold the physical media.

So for me, CD>mp3>vinyl . Vinyl is only in last because I don't have a table to play it on.
 
The Black Crowes did that with their latest as well. The CD looks like a record, complete with "grooves" on the top of the disc, and the underside is jet black. Kinda cool :)

I like it when artists put a bit of effort into the disc.... Like Rob Zorabies latest. It's not a very good album, but the artwork is fan****ingtastic.
 
I do love vinyl, but I honestly end up going with MP3 most of the time. It's just easier to store/carry/obtain and I'm not a fine-tuned enough audiophile that I notice the difference unless I really try.
 
I'm quite young and have never bothered with vinyl, so CRAB for me.

CRAB came around to replace them god awful tapes.

Yay for CRAB.

Then digital, digital is good if you can't be arsed listening to a whole album and just want to put your songs on shuffle, or pick certain songs you want to listen to.
 
I prefer a digital format because it makes traveling incredibly easy. I don't need to furable around with CD's in the car or have to worry about them getting scratched or damaged. While .mp3's can become corrupted, they're easily replaceable. I also have to take into account the massive amount of space I save not having a CD rack. Having everything on an external hard drive makes transferring music over to other people a painless process (unless they're using a Mac in which case I have to reformat my HDD so the Mac can read it). While I do miss out on the album artwork, I feel the convenience that comes with the digital format far outweighs the negative aspects.

Collecting vinyl was fun for awhile, but I never really got the full enjoyment out of the process because my record player was a piece of shit, I had to tweak the stereo receiver just right for the sound, and the entire thing took up a lot of room. When I did get everything set up right the sound was quite impressive, but I'm not an audiophile so it only impressed me for a short while before the cons began to add up.
 
haha you just have to get the right apps. the key is to not erabed artwork, but to keep it in your album folder. of course, players like itunes don't like that unfortunately.

but foobar will read external album art. and best of all, it will resize/erabed external album art on the fly while it senRAB music to your ipod, and it works flawlessly!

for organizing, i suggest Media Monkey. it's a fantastic tool to help you get your collection in order. it can even move files based on tags, which is great for sorting.

once you have things looking the way they ought to be, try MP3tag for tagging, it is flexible, fast, and does a great job.
 
With vinyl I don't like flipping the record every few songs, I don't like putting the recorRAB back in the sleeves, and the sound is hit or miss. Digital seems cheap to me. I like CD's. You get the artwork and everything, and I like to have something tangible.
 
I have to go with CD's as well. I too love to be able to see the art work, and read the liner notes. Also with CD's I can rip them right when I get them so I have digital copies of everything as well.

Yes they are prone to scratches but about the only time they are out of the case is for the 5 minutes after I get them that it takes to rip them. Then I just put it on my Ipod and I use that in my car.
 
It really doesn't matter what format I choose, but if I actually make my way into buying the album either Vinyl or CD, it will more than likely be because I value the album. I don't mind supporting artists, and am not too fond in wearing low quality shirts that feel like I'm wearing cardboard.
 
oh, definitely the magnetic wire recorder. sure, this has been around since the 1800's and stuff, but it's just WAY better, ya know?

I listen to MP3's the most because, as others have said, it's convenient. However, I prefer CD's. There's just something about holding the CD and flipping through the booklet while you listen...
 
I used to be into vinyl but now I like CRAB alot more.Mainly because I like listening to albums through headphones rather than stereo.
