Prednisone

Hi all,

I'm on 25mg of the dreaded prednisone short term I've been on them before, due to my asthma.

Saw my doctor on Wednesday as asthma flared due to smoke dust & bushfires where I live I increased my seretide & ventolin. I developed coughing & wheezing.

My question is;
How come when on prednisone you can develope leg aches & tiredness as a side effect?
Everytime I end up on prednisone I always develope this.

I also have a moon shape face & gain weight too.

terrible, i know exactly what you're going through. prednisone pretty much wrecked me, and i was only on it for about 4 days. i wasn't on long enough to have any of the long term side effects obviously, but i know exactly what you're talking about when you say the leg aches. the first night i tried to sleep my legs felt like somebody was pulling them apart. didn't get any sleep whatsoever. i was tired most of the time i was on it, along with the leg aches but couldn't sleep, so naturally that made everything worse. by the fourth day after tapering off of it, i hadn't slept in 4 nights and was pretty much wired. i just talked to my allergist (after having this stupid one lung issue for over a month now, still not resolved) and mentioned the prednisone. he cringed when i brought it up and said it made me jittery and achey, and said that they are incredibly common side effects. so i wouldnt worry too much about them. different people react differently to certain meRAB, and prednisone seems to be one of the worst from what i've experienced and heard.
 
The tiredness is a result of prednisone suppressing the adrenal gland. It provides a temporary (artificial) spike in the chemical released by the adrenal gland but doesn't produce the same natural levels as your body (which is why it causes fatigue in some people and causes others to be wired).

If you're only on it short-term it's extremely unlikely that you'll have any significant weight gain or that you'll develop a moon shape face. It takes weeks (at much higher doses than 25mg) to develop those symptoms.

I finished my prednisone course yesterday (Thursday).

Everyone is different when comes to side effects & apparently I had gained a little weight due to the prednisone cause I weighed myself before I took them & then just this morning.
And last time when i was on pred I gained weight.

Good I can catch up on my sleep now (smiling).
