Predators

Saw the footage earlier, looks awesome! I didn't realise that Lawrence Fishburne was in it either, so that was a pleasant surprise.

Finally, a proper Predator sequel after all that AVP shite!

It looks good. :)

I'm glad the AVP films got made. I admit they are terrible but they needed to be made. For years people have been saying how cool it would be to have Aliens V Predators or Daleks V Cybermen, Freddy V Jason or Michael Myers.

In your mind these kind of things always sound great, but when they happen you soon realise that they are always a let down because the basic concept is ok, but when you then have to start constructing a story it all goes pear-shaped. This is because people always picture the actual battles or fighting and not the story and reasoning behind why they are in the movie together fighting in the first place.

they looked at making it 10 years before..around 1992 they
wanted Aliens V Predator - but this was
rejected as then the Vs franchise was too associated to children/the younger crowd at that point - as thats what the video games where at the time. And they didnt quite want that.
And when they they finally made that 2004 seepage - which was a pg-13 and terrible and a mistake and was awful and wipped both franchises through mud.
bit of a kick in the nuts to Stan Winston - whose Preadator design and rehashed version of Gigar's Alien was used as well. He always spoke of how offended he was at that.

it would have been a little better if they hadnt of set it on earth and in our time - like the comic.

but at least this new film looks better. and I hope there is no Aliens reference in it all.

Personally I liked AvP, but it might have helped me not being totally geeky re: Alien+Predator law/rules/cannon etc, so any mess ups with timelines just washed over me and I could enjoy the fistycuRAB (when they finally arrived).

As for JvF, simply awesome. Being totally geeky re: Jason, the whole movie just worked for me. From why Freddy brought back Jason, through the beRABquish, right to the cracking ending. :D

But as for this new movie - big guns, old Predator, updated Predator and new monsters - can't wait.

Anybody know what the rating will be on this film? I'm hoping it will live up to it's predecesors and be a full-on 18-rated bloodbath! But I'm worried no-one has the guts for that any more and we'll get a neutered 12A borefest.

I don't think it would make any difference if it had been made 10 years earlier. The problem you have with these two are neither speak. You needed humans or a race that speaks to help drive the story on. Without it you just have lots of action, fighting, gunfire etc but no real storyline or plot. Even computer games have some kind of story to explain why you are trying to complete the levels and kill things.
Once you added in the third element of the humans lots of people would be unhappy as it's slowing the film down, there's not enough action, The aliens or predators weren't in the film enough at all or compared to the other one.
