Pre Wheel Alignment Question on my 1996 Ford Contour?

Just found out my car needs $1,100 worth of work before a wheel alignment can be done. Argh! I'm told that it's not a safety issue, but my tires will wear out faster. True?

This is what it needs to have done:

Right Rear Control Bushings
Left Rear Control Bushings (don't know if that's the correct term)
Rear Sway Bellings

Does anyone know anything about cars that can tell me if it's OK to just drive my 1996 into the ground and then look for another CHEAP car?

driving with your tires out of alignment will ruin them. Depending on how bad they are out of line, it could do it fairly quickly.

I doubt you car is worth much more than $1100. I would take it to another shop and see what they say. Sound a bit high for new bushings to me.
