I've been practicing kendo for about a year now and I love kata. Its one of my favorite things about kendo, its so beautiful and peaceful to me. I've rising to black belt (1st dan) and my sensei has asked that I start to preform kata using a real katana instead of the traditional bokken. I went on ebay and bought one.
I will be using my katana a lot, about 3 times a week, for kata. And, while I'm at home I would like to just pick it up and swing it around for basic practice to keep my speed and movements in shape. My question is how often will I have to clean it, since I will be using it many times a week?
And a small question
How did samurai keep their katana's clean? They wouldn't replace them since its their soul.
Thanks.
