I want to order a PPV program. If I order it in advance do I have to watch it on the same receiver I order it on? Or is it accessible on all receivers. Do I need to have the phone line hooked up the whole time or can I unplug it after I order? Thanks.

Edit, ive searched and found some answers. So ive already ordered it on one receiver. Can I now order the same event on another receiver without being billed twice? Or should I just call to ask them to activate it on all? Or am i too late lol.

If you order by phone or internet then there are no issues watching it on multiple receivers.

If you order via the PPV channel itself, then you may end up being billed more than once, but since the PPV ID is the same (as long as you select the exact same channel, time, etc) then you may have to call to get a second charge removed. In theory, you can order the (exact) same PPV on multiple receivers and as long as they are on the same account you should only be billed once.

According to Bell, you should have the phone line connected all the time :)

At some point down the road, the receiver will attempt to call home (Bell) and download the charge. Although it is technically possible to order and then unplug the phone, you may run into problems since you do want, in this case, all the charges to appear on the same bill to ensure you are not charged twice. If you unplug the phone now, then plug it in 2 months from now, you may find a new second charge and it will be harder to argue with Bell to get it corrected.

I have never ordered a PPV before so this question should be easy. Can I purchase a PPV and then record it on the hard drive to watch anytime.
thanks

Within seconds after your purchase is made, the ppv will be accessible through your program guide to program for recording. We do it regularly and its a great option, about as close as you can come to VOD.

And if you have a couple of PVR's, you can record it on both, as long as you order via the Internet.

I assume that means IF you order via the remote/IRD you can only watch it on one IRD?

If so, what's the point of "plugging" in the phone line to the IRD?

So they can check the location of the receiver. If you order via the receiver you get reception on that one,

No, see post #2

The point of plugging in the phone line is so that the receiver will call out to let Bell know you watched the movie, so thay can bill you.

I order from the IRD with my Dish IRDs and the PPV shows up on all my IRDs. No need to go "online" to order and Dish charges EXTRA if you order online or by phone.

If you order by phone all your receivers get the ppv, are you saying they will all phone home and charge you per receiver.
I am not plugged in and have purchased and payed for my ppv once, not by how many of my receivers were used to watch.

The call itself you make to order the PPV will appear on the bill. It will cause the receivers on your account to open the channel for the event. It will not trigger an order on each receiver on your account. There is an extra fee for the phone order.

Via the Internet is the way I advise for PPV's, then all receivers on the account get them.

These are the Bell forums :) As stated above, there are no extra charges and it is advised to actually use internet/phone to avoid the hassle of potential double billing.

By phone works the same way, although I agree I would imagine online is easier, although I can't say I've ever tried either as in 6-7 years (or more now) I've only orders 1-2 PPVs and since I PVR'ed it in the middle of the night, I didn't care to record on more than one unit/tv.

My point was that it works on the h/w that Bell uses (Echostar/Dish) so there is no reason for it not to work on Bell. It is far easier to order from one of the IRDs than to go find a computer and boot it and then find Bell's page which frequently doesn't work (trying to get any info from Bell's page is brutal) or to phone (yea right!) Bell and spend 30 minutes on hold due to "...the unexpected high volume of calls".

Again my experience of being a Bell sub since 1998, and in my us home a Dish sub since 2000.

I'm not disputing what works for DishNet, the OP is asking what is available for Bell, not how they could/should do it :)

Ideally, purchasing through the receiver would work for ordering and as long as the event ID is identical, you could purchase more than once, but be billed only once. However, in practice, this usually results in duplicate billing and that is why the recommended method is phone/internet.

Enough said, let's move on.
