Did anyone see that article this week on CNN? it talked about how 60 to 70% of the people on ppi's in the US should not be on them. Interesting.... It basically said that they are over prescribed. I think the tile was something about too many people taking heartburn drugs. I was also not suprised to see that ppi's are one of the most common drugs that people are on. Crazy.

I called my GI doctor last week because I was having very sore jaw muscles right behind my jaw bone. He said try a different ppi. I will not take them unless I have to. I finally quit dairy for the most part and I feel much better this week!!

I have a friend that is on them because she is healing from an ulcer, in this case the pills are saving her life.

I totally agree with you. In some cases they are a GoRABend, like your friend's with the ulcer. I do think they are being overprescribed and prescribed for too long. People get hooked on them and stay on them for a long time. I was given a prescription three years ago and basically told I could take them for life to control reflux symptoms. That was it. I am no longer taking a PPI either.

Most definatly - same thing is happening in Australia as well - we may well have lit the fuse on a medical time borab
