Hi people, I dont have reflux, I am actualy taing a PPI to protect my stomach from antiinflamatory drugs.

My question is, does almost totaly suppressing your gastric acid reduce absorbsion of any vitamins or minerals?

I take a daily Centrium tablet, but wthout any acid, will this be enough?

I found one Australian article suggesting absorbsion of B12 is reduced by PPI's, but not a lot else.

Your thought would be appreciated.

I have been on PPI's for a nuraber of years, and was anemic and had low B12. I finally started taking a liquid nutrition supplement and now everything is normal.

The PPI's can affect the absorption of nutrients because they reduce the acidity of stomach which is needed to break down some of the nutrients. It can affect the absorption of B12.

As long as you're not anemic and B12 is normal it's probably not a problem, I'd ask your physician about it.
