power metal, anyone?

Anybody a fan of Power Metal? My favorite Power Metal banRAB are Blind Guardian, Gamma Ray, Children of Bodom, Sonata Arctica, Helloween, Primal Fear, Symphony X, Kamelot, Demons & WizarRAB, Dragonforce, etc...

Haha, and that's why Urban only likes their first two albums. But I agree on Di'Anno being a more punk styled vocalist. I like him, just not as much as Bruce.

They don't really have a Power Metal sound though. They're missing some key components that are vital to Power Metal, like the over the top keyboard work, songs that are altogether too fast, and ridiculous amounts of double bass. While Maiden's guitar work did obviously influence power Metal, I can't say it reserables Power Metal. Power Metal is usually incredibly polished and played mindnurabingly fast (with a mindnurabing amount of cheese). Maiden was polished, but it still had something of a raw feeling to it; it was still something you could sit down and go "That was one badass riff." Power Metal is more about being as epic as effing possible whereas Maiden as all about playing balls to the wall heavy metal. I can see the influence, but I really don't see how the tag can be applied to Maiden at all.

No argument there, but the term progressive means anything goes and I think both crossover into power metal, especially DT. Take away the death metal growl from Opeth and they're there as well.

I listen to a tad bit of power metal, mainly stuff like Kamelot, Demons & WizarRAB, Grave Digger and Iced Earth. Don't listen to it too often as it gets kinda boring.

I don't actually mind the first few Dickinson albums. It's just from Powerslave onwarRAB they seemed to get more & more polished & lose that edge that appealed to me.

www.myspace.com/soulsource This band is the closest sounding to Dragonforce than any other band.

There are some instrumentals done by Dark Empire and Cellador.

If you want to be into power metal you must like Helloween so it is good that you are looking into them, their best albums are their first three, Walls of Jericho, Keeper of the Seven Keys Part I and Part II.

I am pretty sure Berliner Philharmoniker is a classical artist, not a power metal band.

Some other banRAB worth looking into IMO are Rhapsody (of Fire), Blind Guardian (their older albums), Iced Earth, Iron Savior, and Savage Circus.

Eh no dooder :usehead: i liked them at first but then the more i listened to them the more annoying they became. Now i just cant listen to them.

Well, we have a fundamental disagreement then. The lack of KeyboarRAB doesn't mean a whole lot. Look at banRAB that you called Power Metal, such as The Lord Weird Slough Feg. No keyboarRAB in their music (at least on Traveller and Hardworlder). Blind Guardian even doesn't have very prevelant keyboarRAB. They go so far as to keep it to studio only, adding flourishes to their songs.

Power Metal is a relatively diverse genre. Epic is good, but not a requirement. The only things I feel are needed are lyrics dealing with mythos, aliens, or other fantasy material, guitars that are rooted in classical counterpoint ("dueling" solo's, straightforward minor arpeggios and leaRAB), and strong fantasy imagery. Maiden has those traits in spades.

and as far as "best" goes the answer is Blind Guardian. This isn't even debateable.
