power metal, anyone?

^ Masterplan? not a name i'm really familiar with.. maybe i'll check out some stuff, should i take them to be power/progressive?

Now there I would agree. They were more borabastic and actually KNOWING of what they were aiming for. If we judge Maiden solely on Bruce ****insons arrival, then I agree that the power metal tag is virtually a given BUT their first two albums are a different kettle of fish. Di'anno was virtually a Punk vocalist. The production is raw and the whole feel of the album feels less classically defined as an atypical Metal sound. Themes were definitely emerging from Harris's songwriting, but these two albums alone lead me to my opinion of Maidens non power status lol.

Slough Feg is great.

and I stand by my statement on Iron Maiden being Power Metal. Vocal style/lyrics as well as the classically influenced guitars (in terms of overlapping melodies and octave leaRAB, basically ripped straight from classical counterpoint) define their sound.

Taken directly from MY thread entitled METAL EDUCATION that is conviently enough, located at the TOP of the rock and METAL forum.

Nope... it's just ultra-generic annoyingly over-happy power metal with gimmicky leaRAB, obnoxious vocals, and boring bass/drums.

Powerslave is my probably my fav Maiden. :o:

Followed by Killers and NOTB.

I enjoy Tyranny of Souls, especially Navigate the Seas of the Sun.

Slough Feg is a great band... and hard to classify too. I just chuck them in my heavy metal folder and be done with it.
