Power Commander 5 and Auto Tune Info

Hello, yes we have a specfiic map for this application that we developed on our dyno along with an optimized AFR table if you plan on using the Auto Tune.

Yes, turn the feature off, as it isn't necessary for most bikes and will harm gas mileage. Do you have a recognized need for enabling it?

Well my thoughts were that if it was set right...it'd give a little extra zip when you need it for passing & such. But I;m understanding you to say it's just gonna make gas mileage suffer period? I thought the instructions read like the 1st setting is a sensitivity setting (0 being the most sensitive) on when the feature kicked in. I have to admit I'm a novice at this though (even though this PCV is my 4th power commander...the other 3 all being PCIII USB). I've read quite a few of your posts & you seem to know what you're talking about. I'm gonna go turn it off now. Thanks

There are applications for the accelerator-pump feature, but I don't think a stock or even mildly modified bike would be included. I talked with Jamie at Fuel Moto about this a while ago and he said he recommends leaving it disabled except for rare occasions when it's needed.

Hope this is not too elementary for this thread...

Last winter I installed Bub 7 slips. At the same time I purchased/installed SE AC and PCV from Jamie at FuelMoto that he mapped for me. Seems to run great but I question my mileage. I think I'm getting about 36 and don't think I'm aggressive with the throttle. Although 80 MPH is pretty common.
Sorry Jamie, I don't mean to question you. Like I said, bike seems to run great. I have just heard a lot of people say (mostly at my local HD stealer) that often times identical bikes can require different maps. Is this possible?
I am thinking about purchasing an AutoTune partially for piece of mind that it is properly tuned. AutoTune costs just a little bit more than a dyno/map and will continue to do it's job over time and for any changes I might make. I've heard people on here mention using the AT to tweak mileage so is it worth the cost of admission?

Also, I'm thinking about removing the baffles from my Bub 7's and installing QQ Thunder Monster Baffles in the head pipes. Will this affect my map?

Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff, Jamies maps are set up for best performance and best cooling.. you have a couple of options, some guys run 2 maps with a switch 1 map for performance and cooling the other map for mileage when you are on the highway. I haven't done the switch, I recommend you call Jamie or Keith on that one if you decide to do that.

Another option you have is to add the AutoTune to your Power Commander. This will adjust the base map and you may see an improvement in mileage there. Auto Tune is not required and some guys like it others don't.

Another option is to call Jamie and see if he can lean out your map to improve mileage. (Not sure I would do that... I typically like Jamies maps for cooling and performance).

I would be happy to revise your map for you for better fuel mileage. Just email me your current map to [email protected] and I will revise it an send it over. You can also contact us at 877-729-4754. For best performance I generally recommend leaving the baffles so the mufflers work within their design.

Hi Jeff,

Looks like you're getting good responses but I'd just like to make a couple of observations. First, you state that you "think" you're getting about 36 mpg. Have you actually checked it? I have found that my guesstimate is often not that close to what I really got once I actually crunch the numbers. Sometimes it is but not always. Second, if you're getting 36 mpg while cruising at 80 mph, I'd say you're doing pretty good. Running over 70 mph on an Ultra and still getting in the upper half of the 30's, mpg wise, ain't bad!

I'm not trying to flame you here, just doing what everyone does, offering an opinion! I've got my Jackpots, AC, and PCV on order from Jamie as I type this. Haven't received them yet but am hoping to see them by the end of the week so I'm very interested in conversations like this one. I'll probably install the switch so I can keep the base map that Jamie sends me in tact while "slowly" experimenting with certain settings for fuel economy. Iclick has posted some interesting info on that subject. Time will tell.

Best of luck to you & Ride Safe,
Steve R.
