Power Commander 5 and Auto Tune Info

Two things to add to what 09StreetGlider said, you can check your present firmware version by first connecting the PCV to the computer, then click on View, then Device Info. It should show you the firmware and software versions. The newest are 1.0.2 for the software, 0.1.2.0 for the firmware.

When updating the firmware don't turn off the computer or disconnect the PCV while this is going on. If the computer is on battery power make sure it is charged sufficiently, as if it craps out during a FW update it may cause problems.

I may have missed it somewhere in this or another thread. However, I just finished installing A/C and a PC-V to compliment my Rinehart Slip-ons for my 08 Street Glide WITH ABS. (ABS important cause it's one more thing under the seat.) OK ... run's great right out of the box. Make sure you buy yours pre-mapped from FUELMOTO.

HOWEVER .... The connectors are so tight against the battery cover and the harness & other covers, etc. that I am concerned about abrasion or other damage to the components.

This install would be the same for PCIII or PC-V. Anyone run into this? Real Concern? Solutions?

I have my PC V in good under my stock seat, heck just upgraded its firmware and its running great still. Don't have the autotune module, still running great. Firmware upgrade was V0.1.2.0.pvu (heh, no clue what it did tho..)

On the same topic of fitments any of you peoples with 09 touring bikes with a corbin seat?

But if I remember correctly Corbin have a unique mounting system because of the locks on it(keyed locks). I know I have the PC V on top of my ECM but that second plug that was normally connected to the ECM is stuffed in the pocket before the battery. So I am just asking for those who know how a Corbin mounts, will I have room for the locking tab upfront there?

No idea on the 08 with abs question above..

How did you get a corbin seat for your 09 ? I didn't think they were released yet... their website says they're 'Now in molding' but only lists upto the 08 for sale.

Oh, I don't have a Corbin seat yet for my 09... I was just wondering about how it mounts.

Had one on my 07 fatboy.. front tab was sorta deep and had to move around some wires. Which gives me concern about fitment with one of my ecm connectors stuffed in to the front pocket before the battery(because of the PC V).

Just thinking about future upgrades. Have not read that the 09 touring Corbin seats have not been released yet..or are still in the molding process....

I finally figured out what was wrong with my autotune!

The replacement autotune modules arrived from Power Commander today. They actually sprung for FEDEX Next Day Air Saturday Delivery (on their dime) to help fix my problem. Awsome service!

Anyway, I started troubleshooting by replacing one wire bundle and component at a time so I would know where my problem was. After each change, I fired up the scoot on the laptop and monitored the AFR's. Each and every time they were stuck on 9.99 just as before! As I got to the last wire bundle I said A prayer that this was going to be it. IT WASN'T!

So, now I knew for sure I had a problem of a different type. The only things in the system that I had not replaced was the PCV and the O2 sensors. I went and got my Fluke meter and started shooting wires. I Ohm checked every single wire in the system. All wire harnesses were just fine. I then checked all of my original wire harnesses. All of them checked good as well. As I was just about to give up I sat down and started thinking. The only place any outside connections hook to is the factory ECM for the PCV and the diagnostic plug for the AT modules. So my possibilities for failure include PCV, ECM, Diagnostic Port, O2 sensors. The bike ran fine so I ruled out ECM. The only thing that didn't work well concerning the PCV was isolated to the AT kit, so that was unlikely. Nothing I could do today if it turned out to be the O2 Sensors. So, I decided to check the Diagnostics Port. This is when I realized there are two 4-pin Deutsch connectors that are exactly alike. I was plugged into the one under the seat in front of the battery. There is another just under the Fuse Block in the left side cover. I unhooked the autotune modules from the Deutsch connector under the seat and hooked into the one under the fuse block.

A few seconds later, AFR's were being displayed on the laptop!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I looked back at the installation instructions and while the text says nothing about the location of the appropriate connector, the picture does show a piece of the fuse block above the connection. I had the wrong one the entire time!

I decided to go ahead and remove the new kit that Power Commander sent me and I will be returning it to Chris on Monday. After reinstalling my original kit, and plugging into the correct connector, the entire PCV and AT system is fully operational. The only problem with it was a weak spot in the instructions and my bonehead mistake!

I took it for a long ride today because the weather was very nice and the system works perfectly. I could feel the difference between the base map and the corrections and I have got to say it is really really smooth. I will ride this way for a couple weeks and allow AT to fully adjust to my bike, saving the offsets each day. I'll do one week setting offsets to Jamie's map and then I'll make some AFR adjustments for a slightly leaner cruise range and let the AT system do it's job there. Then I am going back to the dyno for a proving ground run. Not because I need to...just because I want to see my results. I will not have the tech tune anything as I believe it is running great.

Thanks to Chris at Power Commander and Jamie at FuelMoto for spending so much time trying to figure this out! I am glad to report there is nothing wrong with your system or your map, only something wrong with the operator...as usual!

By the way, after I figured out the Autotune issue today, I dropped by my closest HD and had a chat with the parts guy. I was picking up my 09 Parts book and had him come take a look at the PCV, Autotune, and Jackpots. I told him all about Jamie and Fuelmoto and how the PCV comes with a map for the bike.

His jaw almost fell on the floor when I told him how cheap the PCV was ($289). He says his cost is a good bit more than that. My local indy said the same thing. I wonder why they don't just buy from Fuelmoto?

Great write-up, great diagnostics, great news! Now, tell Chris about the vague part in the instructions so they can fix it and it doesn't happen again. If you did it, someone else will too.

Not really, just a glitch. I didn't connect the terminator at first, only the rubber cover, which bogged me down for a few hours. There was no mention of the terminator except in the diagram, and I really should've known better. Rubber can't be a terminating device, and I never saw the plastic devices in the box.

Pretty slick device. Took a 100-miler today in 75

Thanks for that info. For you guys with PCV's (no AT), the switch option will not work on the original firmware or recent upgrade. Dynojet says it will work for the next upgrade expected soon. It is an important feature and you guys should consider it. You can run a lean map for mileage and a richer map for those times when you need the extra cooling, and can toggle between them on the fly.
