Power Commander 5 and Auto Tune Info

Yes we now offer and fully support the PC-V and Auto tune for all 02-09 Touring models. The Auto tune module is universal for these models and can be swapped bike to bike as long as the bike has a PC-V. Tune your bike, tune your buddies bike or tune 100 bikes.

I just finished installing and taking my initial cruise with my Fuel Moto Power Package. This included the PCV, Autotune Modules, and Jackpot Dyno Tuned mufflers. I didn't tell anyone when it arrived....cause I like to take my time. My install ended up going very similarly to ICLICK's install which he has a link to his write up earlier in this thread. So, I won't bore anyone with the details of this unless anyone has any questions.

The install was actually very easy...even for me. Most of this tuning talk goes right over my head and I don't think I'll ever get it...maybe after playing with it a few years. I say this because with this package, and Jamie's base map there is no need to know what you are doing. Plug it in and go. The first ride went flawlessly and the bike rode like a raped ape. I can't wait to get it on the dyno again...not because it needs it...just because I want to see what I gained. I'll report that in a few weeks once I've let autotune work for a while.

I do have one question for Jamie...or ICLIck.....though. How do I tell if my autotune is working???? I did the install per the directions. Made sure autotune was enabled on the PCV. Then went for a ride (about 50 miles). The ride went very smoothly with no issues at all. Got back in the garage and plugged into the laptop to look at the trim tables and they were all zeros! Jamie, either your base map was absolutely perfect, or I dorked something up in the settings or something. The red lights on the AT modules come on...the blink a little...are they supposed to come on and stay solid, flash, blink, or what? How can you tell if they are working? Maybe the base map is just that good?

You should see little change in the trim tables since Jamie's maps are so accurate, but I would expect some slight variance in a few cells. Did you install the terminator plug as per the diagram in the PCV instructions (Page 6, Fig. M)? This is not in the AT instruction sheet and I missed it at first. It is a small plastic plug in the kit and fits on the one open port on the AT module not connected to the PCV. If it is not in place AT will not work. Double-check your wiring all around.

If you want to make a quick test to make sure, change the value in the cell for 2500 RPM @ 10% TP (or several cells if you want) for one cylinder from 13.8 (or whatever is there) to 14.7 and then take a short ride long enough to warm it up and get into AT mode. When you get back you should see a negative number in the trim cell for that cylinder showing that AT is leaning at that point to meet the 14.7 target. After the test change it back to 13.8. We can talk later about leaning the cruise range for better gas mileage if you're interested.

BTW, make sure the AT module marked #1 (sticker on back) is connected to the front O2 sensor. That won't change anything except if reversed will read the base map likewise (front for rear and vice versa).

I don't recall what the red LED does on the AT modules, but I think it mostly stays on with some intermittent blinking.

It happens to be page 6 figure "L" in my packet. So they must have made some changes to the instructions. Hopefully they didn't leave something else out that I missed.

I've checked everything as far as wiring goes.

I'm wondering now though...when you are plugged up to the laptop and enable the autotune...do you have to send that to the PCV? All I did was make sure the box for AT was checked then unplugged.

I will try your idea on changing cells tomorrow unless I hear anything else from Jamie. I just have a hard time believing that there is absolutely no trim from Jamies map. Maybe it is that good though???

One more thing I forgot to mention in regard to my questions above on the autotune.

When I start the bike hooked up to the laptop, the initial AFR readings are 9.99 and I thought this was due to the minimum temp/time requirement for autotune to enable.
After the bike warms up (even after my test ride) and autotune should have been enabled and giving me readings...it still says 9.99

Any ideas on what I dorked up Jamie...or ICLICK?

If the Auto Tune is as active it will be reading real time AFR in the software for both cylinders. It does take up to a minute for the wideband O2 sensors to heat up. If you are not getting a reading check all of your connections and make sure you have the termination plug plugged into the open port on Auto Tune module #2. I also recommend updating your software to the latest version which is here http://www.powercommander.com/powercommander_hd/downloads/shared_software/01282009_PCV_Software_Install_v1.0.2.zip If you need any help just give us a call.

Note that to enable and configure the Auto Tune you just need to be connected to the PC V software and use the utility under Power Commander Tools/configurations/Auto Tune. You do not need to send the map back to the PC V, but doing so will be fine. Also note that when you want to check your fuel trims you simply connect to the PC V software and hit Get Map which is on the lower left and this will retrieve all of your data from the PC V unit.

My instructions are for an '09 Softail, so I guess that's the difference.

I don't think you need to interact further, but it should show the check mark when you reattach the USB cable while in the software. If it does that it is set.

I will check my firmware/software versions as soon as I get home and update if required.

Then recheck all wiring again.

Then if no change I will try manipulating a few cells AFR and see if it tunes to it.

I'll let you know then what I find. I can say that the map and PCV are spot on and working very well.
