Power Button failure on the Tungsten T

Haven't posted to this board in a while....

Have a new issue to ask about. The power on/off button on my Tungsten T is becoming next to unresponsive (thank heaven the thing will turn on other ways). However, it still seems that it works fine at turning off the backlight when I hold the button down for a few seconds (without fail). I don't pretend to know everything about the electronics involved in this machine, but why would the button still function fine for back-light operation, but be all but ineffective at turning the unit on/off?

...I'm starting to notice the same kinda-don't-want-to-work attitude from my on/off ma-bob.

I thought it was just the way I carry it and that no one else was experiencing such.

My answer = Planned Obsolescence. They want us to upgrade sooner than we'd like. (I'm waiting for integrated Wi-Fi, BT, and the 128RAM that OS 5 can now handle.) Or we ship it into them and pay $1M to fix it when it'd be cheaper to just buy a new one.

well, if this isn't just a big pisser!

I finally find a palm pilot that I think I could live with for more than just a few months (only owned my m515 for about 5 months before the lure of higher-res screens took over) and the darned thing wants to up and quit on me!

Same problem here, except now my palm won't function completly closed. It's a big turn off, especially considering how realtively expensive this machine is.

Even though I thought the purchase of a 3 year extended warranty with this unit was highway robbery (the original purchase of the warranty was with the m515, but I paid $10 more to extend it to the Tungsten), I am very glad now that I purchased it! I plan on turning in this Tungsten T today and getting a new one (though with all of the horror stories I've heard about new Tungsten's, I can only hope I don't get a defective unit in return)!
