poulan pro 22" push mower knocks (honda motor)?

Son hit big rock with push mower, now it knocks. Im not familiar with these engines, for comparison it sounds like the rod though. Is there something external to the motor that helps protect from internal damage when something like this occurs? When turning the motor by hand, there is a slight knock when reaching the TDC.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
