POTC: At World's End Appreciation Thread #2: Hoist the colors high (SPOILERS)

Oh, ok, that clears things up. I must've missed this tidbit, seeing as how I only watched the movie once.

The Pirates movies are awesome, they will forever be one of my favourite trilogies. They're just insanely fun and hilarious.

I haven't watched them in ages, I really feel like it now.

I believe he did his duty for the first ten years, but it was, according to Calypso's words 'her nature' to be unreliable - as she is like the Sea itself; and you can't predict what the Sea will do (especially not in ten years).
So, she wasn't there waiting for him, and that broke his heart (in that point I totally agree with you, @Rockstar).

Calypso punished him by making him look more and more like a sea-creature for not doing his duty after that incident anymore.

Oh wow. Surprised this thread's still alive.

And in the process of doing so, Davy placed a curse on the Dutchman that the next captain would have to have his heart cut out as well.

Actually, Davy became a sea creature because he rejected his duties as the captain of the Flying Dutchman (hence the reason we even saw Davy in the human world in DMC).

The captain of the Dutchman is able to make it to land every 10 years so that's when Will gets to be with Elizabeth. They have one day, though. :( He must be back on the ship before sunset, I believe.

That's why Davy Jones was so mad with Tia Dalma. He waited 10 years to be with her, but when he made it to land, she wasn't there waiting for him. That broke his heart and made him the monster he is.

Yeah.. It was kind of obvious.

But I have to say that I really felt for Davy Jones. He waits ten years and the only day they have, she's not there. :(

Being that this is a "silly adventure flick," it knew what buttons to push.

But why? I wanna know!

Getting one's heart cut out was never required to become captain of the Flying Dutchman. Jones only did that after he was captain and only so that he wouldn't have to endure his broken heart or whatever, causing him to become the sea-creature-thingy. I mean, wasn't that the entire point of PotC: DMC?

*sigh* I guess I'll just accept it as a means of keeping tradition. If I was Will though, and that was the only reason why I'd become undead, I'd be pissed.

I wish it could be properly answered.

But I asked the posters on Orlando's board if the curse has in fact been broken, and I got an answer that it indeed was, like in the original opera "The flying Dutchman". So I'm gonna go with that version of the story, 'cause I like it far more better, and it gives me a satisfying ending for W/E. :D Plus, I believe in the green light story. Little illogical when it comes to commanding the Dutchman, but what the heck. :goof:

I really liked this one. Not as good as the first 2, but still good.

I figured out the connection between Tia Dalma and Davy Jones during the second movie though. I thought that was a neat hint at what was coming in movie 3.

Isn't he teh coolest??? I'm in love with Barbossa! :D

Oh, I finally saw it! :D I was dying waiting for the DVD to come out and it finally did. I will not hide my sadness that I couldn't catch this on the big screen but there was little I could do about my situation back then.

But I finally saw it and it rocked. :D

jthorton17 hope you get to see it soon! It's really good!

I voted!

Kinda off topic, but POTC is a disney movie.

I am looking for the codes from any disney movie, that are to be used at the disney movie rewards website. If anyone isn't going to use their code(s), I would greatly appreciate them. Just send me a PM. I am trying to get a dvd for my little bro and am short on points.

POTC movies do have these codes inside the case, on a special insert.

I saw this film the other day, i got a bit confused during some parts but it doesn't matter - amazing casting  I love the music too. Depp is amazing in it and i love Will/Elizabeth

Tradition? Good question. I just went along with it, cause it was moving so fast, but good question. I guess... Okay, the Dutchman needs a captain, and cutting out his heart is a good way to make him be a captain, and like stay on the ship? :look:
