Hey guys! I'm 22 and was recently diagnosed with POTS. I have been struggling with this condition for years & just finally got diagnosed. I did however notice that as my POTS symptoms got worst such as trouble standing, heart palpitations, etc, another thing got worst: Motion Sickness. I have always my whole life been a dancer and an athlete. When I was 17 I stopped all of this because I was getting ready to leave for college. It was a slow onset at first it began that I couldnt tolerate boats, then I had to sit in the front seat of cars, and now I can barely drive at all myself! As my POTS got worst this came with it. I was wondering if anyone else out there has a similar experience? Anything at all would be helpful! My cardiologist is about to start me on Beta Blockers to see if it can improve things for me. I know this is not just the run of the mill motion sickness that people experience, because it occurred quickly. Even though POTS is considered a condition simply of the heart it tenRAB to affect the lives of many in so many other ways!
Any info would be great
Thanks guys!

Do you notice any difference in your motion sickness (or other symptoms) related to your menstrual cycle? Some women have experienced relief when on oral contraceptives, so it's not a bad idea to discuss this with your gynecologists and cardiologist, thoracic specialist, or whoever is treating you for your POTS.

Hey there! Tanks for your quick reply. I am actually on a birth control pill at the moment. I don't feel as though mine gets worst during cycle. It has been pretty evenly intense, but I will still question my gynecologist to see if she has any answers to add to that! Thanks!

A couple of suggestions on the motion sickness. I'm assuming you've already been evaluated by an ENT for inner ear problems? That is what causes my motion sickness and it came on literally in seconRAB. I have menieres disease but this stuff is pretty general: limit your salt intake (for me it works best to try to keep it the same every day), avoid caffeine. Some things that I've found on my own are that sipping diet mountain dew or diet ginger ale in the car helps (caffeine doesn't affect me), for when you are a passenger get a pair of plastic goggles from the hardware store, the type they use for woodworking that have little plastic pieces on the sides, cover the side pieces with something dark, I use duct or electrical tape, kind of like blinders for a horse. Don't look out the side windows as a passenger, focus on the horizon. I also did a lot of "desensitization" I'd sit and intentionally move my head in ways that invoked the vertigo, about 10-20 times 2-3 times a day, it took several months but it's not as bad now. Have they tried any of the meRAB that control vertigo for inner ear pts on you?

I hope some of this helps.

Tigg.
