Hi all,

For any of you who read my initial post, I thought I should update you, though I can't say there's a lot of change. I had the IDET on Friday, 1/25/08 and took off the whole work week after. So for 9 straight days all I did was literally lay flat in bed w/ my brace on. The last couple of days before returning to work I started walking, about 20 mins. per day. My pain level that whole time was no worse than pre-surgery, and at times, better. It was different every day. I would have good days & bad days, which is different than my normal pain, which was constant & almost never changed AT ALL. So this past week I went back to modified work (10:30-3:30) and did fine. I stood at my computer almost all the time, w/ short breaks sitting. I did better than I expected. My pain was actually about the same as the prevoius week. There was one day I felt great & didn't take any pain pills. On Monday I switched from Avinza to Fentanyl patches, so have been trying to get those straightened out...anyway, I feel better than expected. I feel completely normal. But I'm still trying to baby myself. Like, I come home from work and lay down almost instantly for the rest of the night. I wear my brace 24/7. My doc really feels that the 6-week mark is when people start improving. So I'm committed to babying myself until then, and see what it brings. If anyone has questions, feel free to ask!

Hello, Beth...I really appreciate you taking the time to update everyone about your condition. I was wondering if you could explain to me about the IDET procedure. I have heard it mentioned before but am clueless about what it actually is. I am thankful to hear that you are taking it easy, which is very important for healing. I hope you continue to improve and enjoy a "pain-free" weekend!

Thank you so much for the information, Beth. I, too, have annular tears (along with other spinal abnormalities), due to Degenerative Disc Disease. I pray that the procedure will work and give you adequate pain relief. Please continue to keep us all updated about your condition!

Thanks for the update and glad to hear you are improving. The heating temp. in the disc is from 60C to 90C. which is a lot higher than nucleoplasty.

Hi Beth-

how are you doing? well, I have two lurabar annular disc tears and one surgeon reccommended the IDET procedure. M yinsurance denied it saying it was "experimental". My main question is... Did the Idet completely reduce the pain?
Barb I can't wait to get this fixed!
