I had probably one of the most intense asthma attacks 4 days ago. It started out with me feeling VERY tired and weak all of a sudden so I was lying down. Started to wheeze, took Albuterol inhaler and had a cup of coffee. Still felt lethargic so a few hours later I took my nebulizer. When I was taking the nebulizer, I wasn't feeling relief. Had to pause the treatment to be able to catch my breath. Tried it again, but I still wasn't getting relief and then all of a sudden started to get worse. It felt like my insides were squeezing SO tight. I left my room and started to go downstairs to my parents. The squeezing in my chest was getting worse and I couldn't hold myself up - was hugging my dad but my legs and feet felt like they were going to give out and I was going to fall. All the while, I'm desperately trying to breathe but my chest was tightening more and more. They brought down the nebulizer and I tried to finish it, but it wasn't helping. Eventually, I felt a glimpse of relief but was driven to the ER.
Was treated with 3 continuous nebulizer doses and 60 mg of prednisone. They sent me home after about 3.5 hours. I'm currently tapering off methylprednisolone and taking my daily asthma meRAB (Syrabicort, Singulair, Clarinex and Nasonex. Albuterol as needed). Took off 2 days from work, went back yesterday - I teach. All I did at work was sit at my desk while the kiRAB did quiet, seat work. But I felt like I was hit with a ton of bricks when I got home from work yesterday. Tried to rest last night - had a hard time falling asleep because my body felt so achy and sore. Went into work today but came home early b/c I felt achy, weak, sore and drained. My chest was somewhat tight and my voice was even raspier than before.
I feel so out of it and when I hit the bed, it felt like a ton of bricks hit me again.
Has anyone had any similar experiences? Are these feelings normal? What is causing them? What can/should I do?
