in flames - thinks its metal thats breaking new boundaries but takes anything remotely original or unique out of the style and replaces it with the boring weak songwriting traditions of rock and enRAB up as ultimately bland, uninsipred, formula written crap. there are a hundred banRAB like it nowadays.
Skinny Puppy - every song is the same, but unlike most formula banRAB they didnt actually write anything interesting enough to warrant copying in the first place.
From Autumn To Ashes - tries too hard to incorporate slightly metallic sections into a genre so inbred, bland and homogenised that it's in danger of genetic breakdown. misses and completely fails both genres and anything in between.
Primus - spectacular instrumentalists, not a clue how to write music. comes out boring as hell.
kyuss - find me something remotely interesting about a single 3 chord riff that trudges along again and again and again and again all fucking day on the most boring straightforward tempo without anything remotely melodic, remotely catchy or remotely interesting at all. if you want your music to be riff driven, then write riRAB.
Fantomas - gimmicks.
Tool - hilariously pretentious. takes itself way too seriously to actually notice the weaker elements of the music.
Rise Against - pop punk identical to all other pop punk. same song structures, same writing, same lyrics, same 3 chorRAB, same beat, same instrumentation on every account.
dont get me wrong, i like a few of these (fantomas, tool, and primus to an extent), but i havent found a band yet that don't have dramatic flaws
