:confused:The dr thinks i may have a slipped disc in my back, and i was just interested to know what routes people have gone down in order to get it sorted?
Is a slipped disc something which will never go away and you just have to manage the pain? Im currently having physio, which is great for a couple of days after but then the pain is coming back again.

I am in agony most of the time and the pain shoots all over my back, especially in my lower back, just above my bottom. Its so painful and working in a nursery isnt the best job really either!

But if anyone has anything they'd recommend doing/not doing to help id love to hear from you!

To give you the best advice, it would be helpful to have more information:

1. How long have you had this problem?
2. Do you have pain that radiates down one or both legs (sciatica)?
3. Do you know what caused this, such as an injury or lifting something?
4. Did it come on suddenly or gradually?
5. Are there certain positions or activities that cause the pain to be worse?

Once you respond to these questions we will be happy to give you our opinions on what to do next.

1) Iv had the problem on and off for the last year-iv always had problems with my back on and off, but have also lost the arches in my feet, so being flat footed affects my back a lot, something which the physio is working on at the moment with me
2) yes i sometimes get pains down my legs but i think its an overflow of my back pain!
3) i work in a nursery, so it could have been many things which have done it, but on both accounts when its been really bad theres been nothing particular i remeraber having done to make it any worse
4) like i said, iv had the pain for a long time on and off but its come on suddenly and usually does
5) i cant seem to get comfy in any position-lying down seems to be the best but it takes a while to settle myself. driving makes it alot worse, so does sitting upright in a chair, and standing!

Thanks

I've had similar problems too. Earlier this year had a mild slip disc which was found out from a MRI Scan.

My Neuro Surgeon told me that there is no medication other than painkillers and some kind of a steroid injection which is given to that area. BUt I deferred from doing it.

Good amount of rest is essential for recovery. I was in complete bed rest for about a week. Later moved slowly around. I used a waist band for support. I was advised not to lift any weights / heavy objects for several weeks. Not to sit in a position for long. Physiotherapy helped to a large extent and so did walking.

Now I'm back to normal./ But the key to recovery is lot of rest. And most importantly a hard mattress to sleep on. Soft / cushy / spring or foam mattresses will worsen the situation.
