Possible Power Amplification Problem?!

I realize that I'm the last one who should be diagnosing problems with a satellite receiver, but I figure it's all binary and circuit boards, so why not!

Here's the problem:

Moved my Bell 9200 HD Satellite Receiver (carefully) away from the wall, disconnected it and disconnected the power source at the power bar in order to do some painting. When I went to plug everything back in, all my gadgets worked except for the Bell receiver.

Here's what I've got: When the receiver gets plugged in, nothing happens - not even LED lights on the front. I opened up the receiver and did not see any burnt circuit boards or any type of visible damage. When I plugged the power source back in(with the case removed), I could hear a soft ticking sound coming from the power distribution/amplification board (yellow). I killed the power and disconnected the HD's power source and then plugged it back in. The result: very dim flashing LED's on the front of the unit.

I'm stumped at this point. I've checked and rechecked all cable connections.

Is it possible anyone else has had this same issue, or has some advice on how to go about this issue?

Cheers to all who respond!

Chris.

You're supposed to disconnect power before removing the cables. not remove cables and then disconnect power.

If you have no lights, the power supply is dead. If its under warranty bell will replace. if not, Bell will ship you a 149 refurb. (plus 13 shipping, plus tax).

Power supply being shot sounds about right.

I guess I'll just order the refurb.

Just for my own personal knowledge: why should you kill power first before unplugging cables?

Cheers!

Chris.

There is power 13/18vdc coming out of the sat inputs, to power the LNB's. This power tels the switch to select the correct input.

Shorting out these connectors is not a good thing
