Possible New ExpressVu subscriber,but I have some questions....

Looking at getting the HD Essentials package, but I have a few questions that perhaps some of the other involved with BEV can answer:

#1: A CSR told me on the phone, that they can subtract the 6100 and replace with 9200 for an extra $10 (essentially price would be $81 per month versus $71 per month) - true or false? Not my first choice anyhows, due to the next question!

#2: A friend is willing to give me his PVR (he doesn't use it) as a second receiver for my home; CSR tells me there is NO additional charge to have it hooked up and transferred to me if its done with the install of the HD package as a new customer; true or false?

#3: CSR tells me I only have until 15 June to have it all hooked up and activated to get the 2 months free; after that, new incentives coming out but they can't tell me what they are! True or false?

OH!!! and is the 6000 series HD reciever as problematic as I've read on this forum....for that matter, is the 9200 series HD receiver any better??

I'm don't know why you are asking these questions.

If the CSR told you this information and its what you want, then sign up. If they don't honour what they said, then don't sign up.

Asking these questions since there are MANY conflicting stories about he-said she-said when dealing with different customer service reps on the phone.
I thought this was supposed to be a forum where one COULD ask for help, and receive it without being told "do a search" stuff all the time.... I have done my searches.
If this is posted in the WRONG part of the forum, please feel free to move it to the correct section, and I apologize for the inconvenience!

I don't blame you for asking. If you were to call back 3 times you would get 3 different answers to your questions.
 
1 - true - I beleive it also states that on the web site.

2 - true but watch out - If you go the package route as a new subscriber then only the first "simple" install is free. 2nd receiver, long cable runs, etc may be charged. Some are at the discretion of the installer, some are not. If you provide your own receiver you may not get free install......I don't know for sure.

3 - sounds reasonable but I don't recall a date being published. The next deal may be better, or may not. "hooked up and activated" though? Seriously, if you ordered it on or prior to the 14th and agreed to the terms, they can't change them on the day the install happens.

4 - all receivers have known issues. Personally I wouldn't bother with anything other than the 9200 as a starter in HD even with the issues which hopefully will be fixed via a software update in the near future.

If your friends PVR is HD, then you should check into the actual costs. If it is SD, then I'd go for the 9200 deal.
 
My personal opinion, and I can't confirm that bell will do this, is to wait to see what the new deal is, and if it is not better, ask for the old deal. I doub't they will lose a potential customer over 2 months of programming - especially when they were offering the package only a few days earlier.
 
Thanks for the info, guys! Its appreciated. I think I'll actually take that idea to wait and see, and then quabble over programming if the next deal is worse than this one!!

I would wait, in Q1 the new customer increase was very, very low. I think the new deal will be better. But that is just a guess.
9200 all the way baby, dual tuner PVR is the cats ...... But that is just my opinion.
What PVR is your friend giving you?
Do understand that if you call back 3 times you will most likely get 4 different answers...lol and I am not kiddn` on that point.
 
The one that has 80 hours of record time..... he has 2 others, says its overkill!!! lol :D
 
It depends Sensual Poet...if a client was thinking of goin with Digital Standard + 5 themes + HD (61$) he is getting a better deal by getting that deal...

That 2 months free includes
-All the international channels (if client gets the upgrade kit)
-HD if client had HD receiver
-Movies East or Movie Central depending were the client is located
-All French an English theme packs
-All game services

If you ask me taught on a personnal basis, since i'm not watching much more than the channels I suscribe to at the time the 3 month free deal is probably more worth it than the 2 months on all channel.

The promotions are handled by another departement which is located in another office so I don't get to see then or even talk to them. I woudn't even know were they are!
 
Overkill? LOL. I have a 9200 and 4 of the 5900s :) That covers 490 hours of SD record time. That's overkill.
 
.... 3 months of MY chosing free, or 6 months of MY chosen package @half price is definately more enticing than all that other crap you can watch for free @2 months.... blah!
 
You could choose a PVR over a 6100 and the rental cost will be 20$ rather than 10$. You have to make that decision BEFORE you connect everything cause if you change your mind once the receiver is activated there will be termination fee of a rental contract

If your friend gave you the PVR and you wish to hook it up at the same time there would be a 50$ charge to install it and no extra charge to get the programming on it. Your friend needs to call us, if he didn't already do it, and even if account ios long time closed to metionned that he gave the receivers, otherwise we won't be able to activate it for you
 
#1. I would definitely go with the 9200. The extra $10/mo will provide 2 tuners, support for a second TV and PVR. Once you go PVR you never go back. :)
#2. There will probably be a $50 installation charge for the extra receiver. It's worth it since connecting an extra receiver later will cost more.
#3. Difficult to say what the new promos will be but they haven't changed much in the last year or so.
 
Well, after a half dozen calls to Bells call centre, getting half dozen different reps (some which barely speak english!), getting 6 DIFFERENT answers to the SAME questions each time, I decided to say screw Bell Expressvu!! If they are THIS unstable at answering SIMPLE questions, maybe my money is best spent elsewhere!!
So I went with local Cable company www.crrstv.net !!Living in a remote northern location, don't exactly have much choices with television (Star Choice, BEV, and local Cable). The local CRRSTV is a NON-PROFIT organization as well. So for $70 (taxes included!!) canadian boneroonies a month, I'll be getting Basics + digital basics + Variety 1 & 2 + Entertainment 1 & 2 + Movies 2. NEVER watch sports nor news :eek: , so this was the perfect package for me!! :cool:
Of course, I outright bought the Motorola DHC 6416 dual tuner PVR!! $600+ taxes.... that hurt a little!! BUT , no contract to sign, can change packages as I want with NO hassle, NO waiting periods, NO CSRs that barely speak englisH!!!!
Installation for 2 bedrooms were free (non-HD), and they will be installing my lines for the main room (50" Panasonic Plasma) on tuesday!! For $25 install fee, I get unlimited tech support at future no-charges!! :D

I think I made the right choice!!! OH YAH!! the HD channels I'll be getting include the following!!
(normal networks) -> CBC, CTV, NBC, CBS, ABC, PBS, and SRC.
(sports networks) -> TSN and Rogers Sportsnet (which I'll NEVER watch; I hate sports!)
(other networks) -> Fox, Discovery, A&E, National Geographic, and Showcase.
 
The new customer deal earlier this year was 50% off for six months on a two year contract. You could order any AIO package, including the HD Extra that includes an HD PVR. So for six months the deal was $51; for the next 18 months $102/mth. There are heavy penalities to cancel and downgrade.

So that deal was, effectively, 3 months free. The current offer is 2 months free; offer ends June 30th 2007. I have no idea where the June 15th date comes from; Bell's website clearly states the above.

If it's Bell ExpressVu instead of Star Choice for you, why not just proceed? While it's nice to get offers upfront, the amount you have to pay at regular rates, and the contract lengths/termination fees, are more important, to me.

You will have to wait till July 1 to find out what the Q3 offers are.
 
That's an amazing cable offering considering your, umm, slightly remote location. If I had to guess, I'd say Star Choice (aka Shaw Broadcasting / Cancom) is providing the HD feeds and, as they are expanding their line-up in mid-Sep, you may have twice as many channels to choose from than you currently do -- if CRRSTV chooses to add the equipment to pick-up and deliver to the customers. No doubt over time there will be enough HD customers to make that a no-brainer.

Sensual poet, I am just quoting what a CSR told me on call today - that middle of this month Bell will announce another special..... once again, a testimony perhaps of not being able to believe whats being told on the phone?? BLAH!!! :o
AFTer speaking with my Almighty Diety (my wife), we are gonna wait to see what the next offering is!! :cool:
 
News Flash: Digital Home Canada aka DHC has become SO popular amongst the technical elite and those wishing to become them that Hugh Thompson, founder of Digital Home Canada and world class entrepreneur has signed a multi year deal with Motorola of Schaumburg Illinois to re brand their line of cable set tops formerly known as DCT's or Digital Cable Terminals to his own moniker DHC.
The first of the new line is their latest Hi Def dual tuner PVR and wil be called the DHC 6416. Other models are expected to follow suit in coming months.
Following on this, The San Diego group of Motorola and Starchoice, a Shaw company will also be rebranding their line of DSR or Digital Satellite Receivers with the now popular DHC prefix. New models shipping with Starchoice latest IPG coming this summer will now be boxed as DHC530's as well.
No plans or negotiation's have been announced for any Bell ExpressVu equipment as sales are expected to dwindle in coming months.

Sounds like you found the deal that was too good to resist, I'm happy for you.
Did it come down to any one simple thing?
Like Pricing, HD, equipment, contracts, rental, service...?

BTW, I did some work for a cable coop last year and was quite amazed just how progressive they turned out to be compared to some of the major players I though had it all.
