Possible cause of gurgle/popping with sideburners

I have had some gurgle and popping with my sideburners and yesterday I was doing an oil change. When I removed the access cover I noticed exhaust soot on the bottom of the cover. I said to self "where did that come from?". Self said back "better check it out." After the oil was replaced I started the bike and put my hand in back of the pipes where the can meets the headers. Sure enough I had a leak, the top clamp was too far back and exhaust was just pouring out. I am not sure of all the dynamics behind exhaust popping but this was a likely suspect. Anyway, I move the clamp forward and re tightened, took a short drive and more of the gurgle/popping had gone away. Seems to me the key is a good seal.

Just thought I would share.
